Need help deciding for breeding!
-
The first horse is my stallion, Helpin a Sailor. The other two are my mares; Dandelion Dreams, and Jennys Tomorrow. I need help deciding which mare to breed to my stallion. I'm gonna breed the other mare to a totally different stallion.

I just bought a blue roan colt, so he might be victim to breeding my other mare when he's old enough! :DLove,

I would probably put all of them through Breeding Advice. Chances are that they will all pass, but it's possible that any of them might not and will be neutered. This is not necessarily a bad thing. None of them have outstanding PT scores, but even so, they will gain some advantage in training if they are neutered, and showing is the best way to earn money for your stable. It takes a while to get there, but never forget that by building up your show herd, you earn money. Breeding always costs you money. Their PT scores have no bearing on their Breeding ability.
Aside from that, crossing Helpin a Sailor with Dandelion Deams will give you either a Bay or a Black foal.
If you cross him with Jennys Tomorrow, the possibilities are much broader. You will get either a Black or a Bay, there's a 50% chance of it being Dun, and a 25% chance of now White 20, 25% chance of homozygous White 20, 50% chance of heterozygous White 20.
If you looking for consistent color, breedin him to Dandelion Dreams. If you're interested in lots of variety in your herd, choose Jennys Tomorrow, or breed him to both.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I was looking for the combo which would give me more color in my herd. I'll try Jennys Tomorrow to Helpin a Sailor, and Dandelion Dreams to so other stud. If I don't care for the outcomes, I'll test them, and hope they don't get spayed or neutered.
I have a question, tho... Why do they sometimes spay/neuter a horse when it's tested? What's the reason behind that? And why not just leave it unfixed and allow the owner to spay/neuter it? I'm very confused by this...Love,

Breeding advice is a huge help in improving your herd. Horses that are spayed or gelded have low breeding ability and would produce lower quality foals if bred. Horses that pass are good breeding prospects.#28036
