Foal Showing
  • I try to show my horses as much as possible to get my daily bonus up but I've been noticing that the foals don't really gain from this. Is there any point to showing foals? Good and bad please.
  • Well, foals don't train at all so they cannot get out of the first division. It's a coin toss there on who wins. I think showing foals are worth it for that little bit of extra points, but then I don't have much of a bonus compared to others.

That and I have an auto enter barn button and don't bother separating the foals from the adults.

  • There's no harm in showing foals, but not a lot of points to be gained, since the classes are so small. One thing it does do is give you some idea about how consistent or inconsistent they are, if that's important to you. However, if they end the game year with only half a point, it will be lost, since half points don't carry over the year-end roll-over.

  • I'm finding most of my foals only score .5 or 1 no matter how much I show. Do they score any better? Last season was my first breeding so I see my 2yr olds scoring well but they didn't really gain anything as foals and my current crop isn't looking to do better.
  • There are only 2 entries in each foal class, so, no, you won't get a whole lot of points 'cause there aren't a whole lot of horses to beat.
  • A win in a foal class (level 1L) gains the horse a half point. In theory, a lucky foal bred at the beginning of a month and shown twice a week for four weeks could gain as many as 4 total points by the end of its first year. You would earn something like 5 hbs in Show bonus over that month from the foal. As you’ve noted, most foals don’t have a perfectly lucky run and gain less than 4 points.

If you are entering by hand or entering by barn and money is tight, it might be worth it to skip showing your foals til they have their first training session as 2 year olds. If money isn’t tight, or if you can’t easily separate out the foals, I would just show every body. Every point counts. If you have a bunch of foals (I currently have something like 600 on the ground with more breeding to do) those half points can really add up.
  • I always show my foals. Some don't get many points, but I'd say about half of them end the month with 3+ points. 2yr olds just started training, so they often don't seem to be doing well, but they are still very low level. They will get up there eventually, just keep training and showing.
