What is a good papered score?
-
I don’t really understand the “A” papered or B papered horses... I know it’s significant for a horse to have papers but what I don’t get is the definition of a good grade. Is Blue a high paper grade?
Apparently A papered isn’t very good, which doesn’t make sense to me lol! Can someone explain the ranks and what scores are considered desireable?Home of the Valley Warmbloods.

An A stallion is pretty good, the only grading higher is *Star.
The letters are stallions and colors are mares. So the system goes like this:
C/Yellow
B/Red
A/Blue
*Star/*Gold
Most foundations that are not a rank special or exceptional or perfect foundations will be C/Yellow. Some RS may not have a breeding boost, though many do.
Other members can probably explain it all better than I can, but this link under the papering section is a good resource.

None of C, B, A, Star papers are bad. It's all relative to whether they are a foundation, first cross to foundations, or multi-generation.
Foundations can be C or B papered, both is fine. That's what everyone starts with. But if you were trying to improve you wouldn't want to keep a C papered colt from them. If a higher generation Star stallion produced an A papered colt I'd consider that colt poor quality. But an A papered colt either gen2 or gen3 from foundations would be very good! It's all relative!
