My first A papered stallion
-
Got my first A papered boy. Passed all his tests. Just need to do the comparison to dad, but will have to wait till I get more hjbucks.

Yay, congrats!

Awesome!

Interesting to have an A papered from a normal create foundation mare, even if it is by a 3rd/4th gen stallion
-
Best stallion I bought off Public Auction. I knew he had it in him :-))
-
Welp, checked him for consistency and it gelded him :( Remind me in the future to uncheck that stupid box on the consistency test.
-
Oh no :(
-
Too bad :( You will have less inconsistency if you breed horses of equal quality though. Like foundation to foundation, 2G to 2G and so on.
-
Inconsistency doesn't bother me much at this time. Still trying to find my way through this. Down the road a bit it may be more of a concern but for now not so much.
-
Just a heads up, but consistency does matter to most players. I personally will not even consider purchasing/breeding to a horse with an unbalanced pedigree. I would love to get some new blood in my herds, but it's tough to find horses that fit my requirements. And I'm not saying you can't breed this way, cause you definitely can do whatever you want :) , it's just that if you ever decide to sell any stock down the road, 'even lines' will sell much easier/quicker then uneven lines. Please don't take offence to my remarks.#110

He's not a very good quality stallion with uneven pedigree, and being inconsistent so probably best that he was gelded. But of course being not good quality is just becuase he isn't what most of us would breed for, if he's what you wanted then I'm sorry for you he was gelded!

One thing you might not be aware of (and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I had this impression), for breeder's clubs you're taking your horses out of the running for awards for which generations matter. The showing awards are based on foundation, 2nd gen and lined. If your horse is uneven it's not even in the competition for the showing awards, unless it has more than 3 generations in all branches of its pedigree.
I have a few unevenly bred horses that I keep because I like them, but never more than a one-generation difference. When I first started out I was breeding unevenly because I didn't feel like it mattered -- then when I bred my 3rd gen A stallion to some mares who were 2 1/2 generations... every single one of them failed testing. Now I'm slowly replacing them with better stock. So bear in mind that the stock you breed now is going to be the foundation of your multi-generation stock later. Being ruthless with the snippers will result in better quality down the road, and you'll be glad when you start seeing the results in your 3rd and 4th gen horses. It's the reason most of the people who have been playing a while will breed ONLY even generation horses (which also means you'll have a harder time selling horses if you don't breed evenly).
You have a LOT of stallions. Consider breeding your mares to good quality outside stallions rather than keeping so many of your own. In a lot of cases it's not much more expensive, and you have access to patterns you might not be able to afford to GMT (I know I can't!), and also really high quality. I'm getting some A papered 2nd gen stallions out of my Bring Back the Sun stud, and I know there are several BBTS horses who are for public breeding every year. Then again, if you'd prefer to do everything in house, that's cool too.. it's a nice feeling looking at a pedigree and knowing you own(ed)/bred all the horses on it, and the result is a really good horse. :)
The cool thing about HJ2 is, we get to breed every month, so there's really no reason to keep stock that isn't top notch for what we're breeding for, because there's always next month. (Yay it's almost next month!!) Best of luck this season! -
Thanks all for the advice. It really does help to better understand the game. I started just a few months ago, and there does not seem to be a whole lot of information in how things relate to each other (ex. papering, PT, showing, etc...). I do not own horses in RL, so am working from a limited knowledge of horses; however, I am enjoying the game and plan to be around a bit longer. Even screwing up I have managed to acquire 1 or two awards (by dumb luck mostly). Please keep the advice coming. It not only helps me, but I'm sure it helps a whole lot of others too.

I don't know if you joined before or after the new on-site forums were created, but there is a gold mine of info at the old forum.... it helped me tremendously, and I've only been playing a few months longer than you have.
