Does tack and coat color testing improve the competition results on a horse?
  • I am new and have a question, that to the ones that have been here for a while it will seem dumb, so please be kind!!
I put tack on three of my horses, plus did braids and leg wraps; does this help them, point wise, in the game? Or did I just spend my money on ridiculous items? Also, does coat color testing do anything to help the horses win in the shows? I did that on one of my stallions, but he has placed last in all of his competitions (maybe he just prefers to not show ;) )!
Thank you in advance for any help!
  • No it has no effect om showing what so ever

  • Color testing is helpful if you aren't sure what color your horse it. It's greatest benefit is to make sure whether it is carrying frame, since crossing two horses that carry that gene (Olw) risks losing the foal if it gets the gene from both parents. The four varieties of dominant white (found on the Kit gene) are also homozygous lethal. Other such combinations are the Sabino 1 and 2 with any white, Splash 2 (PAX3C70y), and Splash 3 (Sps3) when either homozygous or combined with each other. Splash 1 (Sps) combines safely with either of the other two splashes.

Horses win in shows based only on how their score compares with the other horses in the show.

  • Thank you so much! I will then just put money into actually obtaining horses either through breeding or create a horse or buying one.
    Thank you again.
  • Just adding, sabino 1 and 2 are not lethal with any white, just with w1 and w2 :)
