Basic upgrade features/vs Premium?
-
I'm thinking of getting the 3-month basic upgrade to test out the features and see if it's a good next step (being that I'm filled up entirely on barns and have a breeding plan set for the next generation and know exactly what I want to breed for now- and also plan on working on my own show horses). Then if it works out and I like it then I may consider going up to Premium around/after Christmas.
My questions though are:
- Is is it worth trying basic?
- Is stallion papering useful?
I don't know a lot about the features but the expanded barn, pasture, breed name, weekly pay, auto trainer and auto entering is really appealing. -
The basic upgrade is definitely a good stepping stone if you plan to get the premium at some point. Stallion papering is probably the most useful feature of having a basic upgrade. It really helps you to see that your lines are improving, even though there is a range out quality for each level.Thanked by 1Alohomora

I second RunFarAway : )
Auto-showing definitely helps save time and sanity. I am currently using a freebie account on HJ1, and although I have less than 40 horses, it takes me longer to show those 40 than it does to show my combined 5000 head on HJ2.
Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account. -
@SandycreekFarm
Ahh okay. So stallions are ABC, mares are blue/red/yellow. I'd seen both but hadn't made the connection.
@Alohomora
I think that's what's keeping me from showing and training my horses. I don't even have that many show ponies but it's so tedious doing them all. So I'm looking forward to that part! :)
(Also, five thousand??) -
One thing that I've started to do is run all of my horses - even mares and studs as long as they show well - through mass show entering once at the start of the week and then hand show those who place in the top 50%. It can be a bit time consuming but can save money.
Auto shower and mass entertaining are different things.
Auto shower is a premium feature where you can set barns to automatically be entered in a specific day each week. It has an algorithm that judges the best opportunity for your horse to do well. (I think, that was how it went when I played HJ1 many years ago. Someone with a premium upgrade should be able to clarify.)
Mass enter is a basic feature. You still have to manually click the button for each barn every week. -
@Wolf735 sorry, I was failing at arithmetic last night. After my pasture foals were sold back to the game, I am currently sitting at a little over 3500 head. That's a much more reasonable number, right? ; )
RunFarAway is correct in differentiating between mass entering and auto showing. I have most of my barns set up to automatically show my horses, but I usually end up clicking the "enter this barn" button when I'm looking through my barns each week and get impatient.
I know that I have more horses competing directly against each other this way than if I hand showed like RunFarAway does with their top showers. However, once I reached 200+ horses, I felt like hand showing was becoming more of a chore for me than a fun brain challenge.
I play this game to have FUN, so if I discover a particular approach to the game isn't fun for me any more, I stop doing it! That's what drew me to Hunt and Jump over other horse games--I can play however I want to. I'm only competing with myself.

It dosn't mater if they compete against each other. I've done the number crunching before. High in the class is high against all horses in the game at that level, and low is low against all horses in the game at that level. They would place the same against your own horses or someone elses. It dosn't matter.
