Retirement for this guy
  • After this breeding season is over this old man will be going into retirement as a show horse! Since I don't use him as a stud anymore and I know a few people have bred to him, so now is the chance to use him! :) I don't have straws available but I can get straws after the auction if anyone wants them :)

(What is a good price for straws if someone wants one?)
  • (In general straw price is your stud fee plus straw cost—500hbs.)
  • Cool. Now don't want to sound rude, just want to make sure you have all the information. Why are you retiring him? (I'm assuming you're referring to gelding) His training has leveled off, so there will be now show bonus gained by gelding him at this point, so all you will do is prevent yourself from breeding to him or getting any breeding royalties off of him at all. He is mid aged, but he is still young enough that you will probably get a decent price if you decided to sell hi as an intact RS stallion. If you are attached to the idea of retiring him, go ahead, though as far as warning you money at this point he is still going to get you more money intact if you show him and put him up for breeding if even only one person breeds to him. Just something to think about.

  • You don't get show bonuses off of leveled horses?

  • @WildlandAcres I was just going to retire him since I don't use him as a stud anymore but if he would be better intact then I will do that :) Tbh I didn't know he was a RS all this time I've had him :)) Though he is my second create on here so I'm too attached to him to sell lol Thanks for the tips, I would have lost some money just retiring him! :) Also I would like to know if you lose your show bonuses off of leveled horses, I didn't know that.
  • You DO get show bonus, the training ability just levels off and doesn't increase all that much. It DOES increase, though, so keep training the old guys, too. As long as the horse is alive, in your barn, and has some points, those points will generate showing bonus money.

There is a training bonus for spay/gelded horses....I THINK it's not over 1PT point, but it's certainly nothing to spit at.

Since this guy has levelled off he would STILL get the gelding bonus, but that bonus would just apply to the teensy (.01- .02ish) "post level off" PT, not to the "PRE level off PT" he was born with. (Does that make ANY sense?)

Ammit will chime in if that's not correct, I'm sure.

  • Show Bonus is the nightly infusion of HBs you earn for the points you “own” from your horses’ showing. It is earned as long as you own the horses who have earned you points...if you sell them or they age out of the game, you lose the show bonus they earned you.

Spayed and gelded horses do get a training bonus, but as Confluence has explained, horses that have leveled off train at a negliglble amount. Gelding your boy will not result in any significant training bonus because he has leveled off.

I didn’t look at your boys stats when I replied to the post earlier. I agree with Wildland as far as his earning potential into the future—he has very few points accrued and does not appear to have leveled off in the “sweet spot” at or close to the top of his class. He’s consistently placing in the bottom half of his class, so if he were mine, I would probably keep putting him up for public stud and keep showing him (he’s still usually adding a few points to his total each week, and every point counts!) to maximize his earning potential.
  • Ok, thanks for sorting out the terminology mixup. I made a confusing.
