Did you test him?

iv done all his testing, his father is a kp but sadlt he didnt through back to him i was wondering if he would carry the gene and if i put him to a kp mare would that then through a kp foal

To show kp, a horse must have two copies of the gene as well as two kit genes. Your horse does have two kit genes, however since his mother doesn't have kp herself he's only a carrier.

The Fog is Hom KP, so your colt is guaranteed to be het. He carries the gene, but it’s only expressed when the horse is homozygous for it (carries 2 copies, one from dad and one from mom) and also has two Kit pattern genes.

As to whether he’d be worth breeding, without further testing it’s hard to tell. It looks like you have the basic upgrade. I would recommend PTing him. If his PT is nice and he is consistent, I would recommend Comparison Testing him to his father. This is an expensive test, but knowing whether he’s superior or inferior to his sire can help you make a decision. If he’s inferior, I would snip and either sell or put in your show herd. If he’s As Good As, it’s a bit of a toss up. If he’s Superior, he’d probably be worth breeding from.
