Pearl is silent when it’s heterozygous. Because this mare’s father doesn’t have pearl or cream, you can’t get a pearl or a pseudo pearl expression on this mare. Changing her base color won’t make any difference.

Remember that for any given gene, each parent must contribute one allele. In this case, the stallion only had one option to contribute—C. The mare could contribute cream or pearl. You cannot get both alleles from the mare, you must get one from each parent.

If you switch the dam’s allele to Cream you will get expressed Cream—smokey black in this case. However, that would mean this mare could not pass pearl on to her foals.
