Why is he red?

I'm not sure why this guy came out bright red?? does it have anything to do with his sire being a chocolate? -
It does! When you mix wild bay (A+) and dp, you get ketchup red horses!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I have no idea why you guys keep saying bright/ketchup etc. This color is normal bay color. I can make them less red if you think it is unrealistic but I really think it isn't.

Well, compared to other bay variations, it's rather bright. I'm pretty sure we all like it and I do think it's realistic. I only use the wording as a way to describe and differentiate it from the other dp bays, which tend to get rather dark.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

His RGB red value is only 136.
Here is the exact same G and B values with the red turned all the way up for comparison. :D
I really don't think this horse or any of the others are bright red.

I believe a better term might be "blood bay". Most bays I've run into that aren't the dark, sooty type come out as a lighter, red colour, and I often hear them referred to as a blood bay.ID# 25784 Home of quality Artylian Drafts & Cobs

Don't change it Ammit - it's a lovely colour :)
-
Please don't change it. Blood bays are one of my favorite colors on a horse. I can't breed for them because of to many irons in the fire but I love it when I get them in my herd.
-
i hope it's ok to post a link but.....
I found a color chart :D i did not know that there were 7 different shades of bay.

Yes I love the blood bay but I can see where the ketchup bay came from. They are bright but not that bright still very pretty don't change Ammit I love the blood bay :D
-
I also had an amazing blood bay in real life. He was an OTTB and he had the attitude to go with his firey red coat!
I tend to use the term "bright bay" for regular bay or wild bay with no sooty and "blood bay" for DP no sooty regular bay and DP wild bay that both look "redder" than that coat shade looks without the DP. -
We love our ketchup horses ^_^ don't ever change them !
