pasture bonus?
-
what is a pasture bonus and how does it work? stupid question, but i have only done this since the spring and not heavy into it until july.

Keep your mares in pasture for 30+ days and have a higher quality foal :) I do believe they have a higher chance of passing BA and SBA :)Thanked by 1wendolyne

I really like how SandycreekFarm put the pasture bonus:"The "bonus" works this way.
Every day a mare remains in the pasture, a little virtual slider creeps up, hiding a few points from the bottom of her breeding ability range. This continues for 30 days. When she is removed from the pasture, that virtual slider disappears, and the whole range is once again active.
The practical result is that her potential contribution to her foal's abilities now comes from the top end of her range. Her foals are more likely to have a higher PT score and also to have the best breeding ability possible.
However, since the stallion's breeding ability has not been shortened in this way, he might be contributing from the bottom of his range, so there is no guarantee of a better foal every time.
So, yes, there is an improved chance of an intact foal, but there is also an improved chance of a higher PT foal that isn't intact. Randomness still rules, it's just a bit more restricted."Thanked by 1wendolyne
