I've seen some mention that they don't keep any 1g horses and some keep just about everything. What do you do and why? :)
-
The first time around, I kept a little of everything but ended up with something like 3000 mares, which is just madness.
This time around I've started out with very specific goals from my Foundation lines, so I've picked mares and stallions that will fulfill those goals. This, I hope, will help me keep my numbers down as I go up in generations.
I did also end up breeding odd generations on odd years (foundation, gen 3, gen 5) and evens on even years to try to keep my yearly foal crop more manageable.... -
I'm pretty much a pixel pony hoarder, and tend to keep almost anything, including foundations. However, I'm able to afford to add barns using game money fairly frequently now, since we were blessed by Ammit with the showing bonus, so I don't have to economize on space.
I confess that I currently have 533 intact foundations (far more than I ever find the time to breed). I have 169 foundation neuters. Along with them I have 1001 lined neuters and 656 lined stallions and mares.
As for my rationale, well, let's say my personal mantra is "the more horses you keep and show, the higher your daily income for the game will be." :D
[In truth, the reason is a lack of time or energy to do serious culling.]De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thank you for your input. My minimalist nature has a hard time collecting so many. ..but there are so many pretty ponies, lol.

Usually I only keep mine for a season or two. I have a few that I've held on to because they were some of my first horses in the game. This season I have very few foundations because I want to focus on my lined horses. Last season I created buckskins because I wanted to add them into my macchiato line, but I auctioned almost all of them off after I bred them. The season before last I created a bunch of dark chestnuts and dark red duns to broaden my liver lines. I only have three of those left. I guess I prefer to focus on my 2G and up horses, because I have several genes that I focus on that don't show up in foundies very often.ID: 16853
