The basic outline of the game is to decide on a goal for your stable (colors and patterns you want to breed for) and then select some breeding stock to work toward that goal and do enough showing to raise money to enable you to do the breeding you want to do.

A lot of us have started with foundation horses (freshly created ones without named ancestors) and then work to breed increasingly better offspring with each generation.

Each real life month sees the start of a new game year, so it doesn't take long to have several generations of horses going.

If you look through the Help Me Out section here on the forum, you will be able to find several discussions that address the basics of the game, as the questions of previous newcomers have been answered.
