I love this color! I've got a nice herd of palominos/chocolate Pals started and know what to cross with to increase my odds of chocolates, but not sure with the silver Blacks. I love the more reddish toned ones most with dapples.
Would like input or thoughts. Thank you!

Cross a silver gene horse to a black horse. You want your silver to have at least 1 a and 1 Z. So silver bay, silver buckskin, chestnut that carries an a and Z, etc. Crossed to black, you have a chance at silver black if the goal inherits at least 1 E, a/a and at least 1 Z.

I think you can get silver black HHs. Or Silver Grullo, which is just the black with a dun gene added on. But you basically need an E(-),aa,Z(-) horse, there the dashes can be the other genotype or the same and it couldn't matter. Like what Haltanny said.

I breed silver black, bay, grullo and buckskin. It really is a fun gene to play with. You can get a lot of dapples.

I have other silvers as well. I am breeding for all silvers, but just starting really. Silver brown is probably my favorite.

As a note, the tone a silver black's coat takes on appears to be random rather than gene based. You can reroll horses and get different tones.

Thank you everyone for your shares, in both pix and information. Love looking at them all. I have a few oddball silvers too, but wasn't sure if they could be mixed with the silver blacks to get more silver blacks. I will corral them up into one barn now and plan for next year. :D

Silver blacks crossed with silver blacks is a great way to have high chances of silver black babies.

If you need a silver black stallion I would be happy to sell this boy. He's given me some lovely foals but my Macchiato boy aged up this season so he's just a public stallion now. I'm happy to sell him at create price if anyone can really use him.

@Cheers your fellow is gorgeous and if he was a sport pony I'd take him! I have mostly SPs at the moment, and a new herd of all black RH that will dub for Russian Arabians :)
