  • I have been wanting to save up to purchase Axiom the next time it comes out but it came out a lot sooner than I was expecting... I can't ask my parents for the money because they won't pay for me to buy anything in a game and the only money I have is cash that i'm saving to buy a real horse. And even then I only have just enough for one copy :( Do I take the cash to the bank and use that? Or do I just cut my loses and hope it comes out again down the line? Ughhhh... I guess I'll have to wait and just look at everyone else's pretty ponies =((
  • I won't advise you on how to spend your money but honestly it sounds like you can not afford a real horse then. Getting a horse costs almost nothing. You need to budget many hundreds of dollars per month to care for a horse. Vet bills can cost thousands of dollars. You would be better off taking riding lessons. That is the first step to horse ownership anyways.
  • Don't be so silly. If you are saving for a real horse then you should not even be thinking about spending the money on a GAME! You are so lucky to have the opportunity to save for a horse, I will never be able to do this as I can hardly even get by week to week. So please don't spend that money on this [-X
  • I have to agree with Ammit on this one. I've been horse crazy all my life and I still can't afford one. The initial purchase is the cheap part. On top of that you have boarding, feed, vet bills, farrier and miscellaneous tack and equipment. I'm looking for property in the next few years so I'll be able to buy when I feel I'm financially secure enough to. Until then, this is my outlet :)
  • I would encourage you to save for the real thing! It's the best thing a young person with supporting parents could do. I saved my pennies from raising cavies to buy my first horse, an untrained filly to-boot, for an uneducated horse crazed kid (which I would recommend anyone to get into 4-H or find a mentor to help). Must have priorities and throwing money into a game where you will never get anything out of, but wasted hours, is poor management of time and money....but it's fun, and I don't have anything else to do at this time, sooooo.....
Having the real thing will teach you so much more then a game will. Save, save and save. You can do it! =D>
  • I agree with Ammit, the cheapest part of owning a horse is buying it! If you wanted, you could look into leasing a horse. You could either do a full or a half lease. If you do a half lease, you could share the horse with someone else and split the costs between you. Last year, my friend got a free lease on a horse that was pulled out of pasture and hadn't been ridden in years, and she fixed the horse up and showed her! Buying a horse is expensive. You have to pay for feed, hay, vet bills, farrier, and tons more. Also, you have to buy saddles and tack to ride and train the horse, and most of that stuff isn't cheap. But I'd personally save up and not buy the Axiom.
  • Thank you all for your input! Also, I should add, I'm saving up for a horse because that's what I got my degree in, Equine Studies. I'm still working on actually getting a job (that's a whole other interesting story) in order to pay for everything. I am a CHA certified horseback riding instructor so no point in taking lessons. The only reason it's taking me so long to find a job is because I've never had any "real" job experience outside of working at a barn. My dad, my sister, and I are working on building a horse pen in our back yard right now and my sister boards her 2 horses for free at a friends house. I know how to pay for animal feed, vet bills, etc because I have 2 goats and 14 rabbits to take care of. I know that the initial fee won't be near what I need to pay for the long term care but i'm working on all of that. I realize that $30 or so is not that impressive but at least it's a start. My sister paid for her Tennessee Walker by saving $5 bills and she had to borrow money to purchase her Quarter Horse. But both horses are living the good life and she can afford to take care of them and all their needs. I'm just frustrated about the whole job situation i'm in right now which is making this all that much harder :( I the meantime, I can ride my sister's horses but their both barrel racers and I want to do dressage so it's not always a pleasant ride. But I do understand what you're all saying, so thank you for advising me :)
  • I gave up on owning a horse for the time being, can't even afford lessons/don't have time. Don't even own a dog because not at a place in life where one is feasible :(
If you decide to save up by the time you are done saving will you be at a place in your life where you can afford the upkeep and have time?
If the answer is no, do you think you would still be playing this game? If I had a full time out of house job I wouldn't be playing this game. Luckily I work from home and my older kids are home for the summer and able to help take care of the younguns. When they go back to school I'm not sure I'll have as much time for games, although this one doesn't suck up as much time as others that I've played in the past I may not be able to get on daily. I have just enough disposable income to make getting Axiom not much of a problem, and I still can't commit to paying 45$ for a full horse.

I don't completely know your situation but I'm going to assume you're going to school and don't have kids/a household to run. Do you work? If not then you are limited in your disposable income as well. Throwing it away on this game, whether or not you save for a horse, is kind of dumb. Especially if you have just enough money saved up for 1 gene.

Was writing while you posted your reply so I was a little mistaken on your age, lol.
  • @AHayesHorses - have you tried volunteering at the local pony club or 4H. It would allow many people to see your skills and perhaps lead to proper employment.

  • @AHayesHorses

Going to double post now that I've read your new post.
Was working at the barn not a paid job? If not you still may be able to put it under work reference. I know volunteer work can be listed for job reference, whether it be walking dogs or doing paperwork for a ferret rescue.

Job hunting is just the worse and right now unless you want to do food service no one seems to be hiring. And I wouldn't recommend food service unless you run out of options. Nothing will break your spirit faster than being treated like you're less than the mess you scrape off your boots after working in a barn.
  • I trained horses for a living/extra income for many years. I also lived inside city limits so owning my own horse in my backyard was not an option. Fortunately the lady I did the majority of training for allowed me to work for board for a almost two yr old abused reg. QH filly I purchased for $700. Mind you, I worked at Wal-mart and was a single mom that also had a mortgage to pay. ..where there is a will, there's always a way. I also did pet sitting, and painted model horses on a commission basis and for sales pieces. Also, I must mention that my horse was way cheaper to feed then my son, lol =))
  • @SuperSarah I spoke with and will be helping the horse barn specie chair lady with improvements for fair/4h so hopefully that will help!
@SeldomSeen Yes it was a paying job so I do put it on applications but i'm still not very desirable in a retail position without that experience apparently. But I'm still making some money working for my great aunt and for my dad.
@RobbinsRoost lol I'm probably more expensive to feed than all my animals too :))
  • Hey AHayes! Hang in there! The right job will come along.

I say don't spend the money for just one copy of one color. I agree this came around way faster than I thought it would. I would sit out this time around and hope it will come out again in 6 or 8 months when you're in a better spot financially.
    Thanked by 1AHayesHorses
  • My honest opinion is use your money on your irl horse that is a living, breathing, and a bundle of love. I use to never play games I'd always blow all my money on you horse and forget to buy myself food before I'd spend a penny on a game lol that's the honest truth :))
  • I don't know this would be a tough decision for me although owning a real horse would be absolute heaven they are just so expensive and in my situation right now I can't afford a real horse but I can afford 40$ on a game horse instead of thousands and Thousands of dollars of real money on a horse and I agree with Ammit she is right :) but it's totally your choice whatever you decide to do is the best for you and if you do end up getting a real horse and can afford to take care of it properly I'd be very happy for you :)
  • Thanks everyone! I'll be happy just perusing everyone else's horses for now :) At least I can still "window shop" lol
    Thanked by 1StarfireAcres
  • Nothing like window shopping.
