Living Foals Improving Future Foals?
  • I feel like I read somewhere that sometimes a mare's first foal is sort of a "dud" and that her foals after that would be better quality - and following that logic, that it would help to keep around a living foal, even if a dud, so that her future foals would be better.

    Is this really true or am I wasting space hanging onto all these "dud" foals to cull later?

    Similarly, I'm pretty sure that if a foal is culled (either sold back to game or sent to auction and not purchased - outcome is deleted from the game) that its PT score will no longer be factored into its parents' AFPT. Is this true? Does it matter if the foal is culled as a two year old? (basically will yummed 2yos still get deleted from the game - or is there a point when yummed horses still stick around in the Archive?)
  • Hey Kinetic,

    I must admit that I have not heard of this before and my gut response is no. Ammit has developed this game to be rather realistic such that foals get certain aspects (breeding/showing ability) from their sire and dam as well as an added random factor. That makes me think that the "first foal being a dud" isn't true. Every foal a mare has will have an equal opportunity to be a dud or gem - if the mare is bred using the same means (because a 30+ pasture bonus foal has a better chance of being intact than an advanced breeding lab foal).

    As for keeping the dud foals to make better foals later... This might be reminiscent of the old papering system when the paper level of a mare could change depending upon the foals she produced. Though I think I recall Ammit mentioning that we were complicating this clause since the mare's quality was not necessarily changing depending on the foals. However, with the new system, a mare receives a single paper score for her entire life thus making it easier to determine her quality. So, no, you don't have to keep dud foals. Sell them whenever you want.

    I think if a foal is deleted from the game (not recorded in archives) their PT score is no longer included in the mare's AFPT, but I'm not 100% sure.

    I believe horses sold to the game do get completely removed from the game, no matter their age. Though, again, I'm not 100% sure about this since I don't typically sell back to the game and only sell to the auction to make a larger profit. I do know that the foals and horses I auction, and the game picks up to be yummed, are completely removed if they do not have any foals.

    I hope I didn't steer you wrong but that is what my instincts are telling me. :)

  • Any horse without any living descendants would be removed from the game generally speaking. If a horse has foals, it'll get Archived. So it's not dependent on age, just whether it has descendants.

  • Ok, phew! I'm not sure where I read it and wasn't able to find the thread using the search, so I'm not sure if maybe it was talking about the papering system of the past. But it's good to know that this much more complicated method of hanging onto dud foals isn't necessary!
  • Ya that's total BS lol. :D

  • There is one player who TENTATIVELY, and with admittedly ZERO evidence, has SUGGESTED that MAYBE it was the case. She was pretty clear that she was not advocating the idea!

  • You guys should know how the scientific method works. Not my fault if you continue to ignore it with this like this and spot size. :D =)) :)>-
  • Ah, but do you deny that you are capable of sneaking in some really cool, fun thing that we have missed all these years? You USUALLY tell us, (at least to look for something new) but I wouldn't put it past you for ONE minute, Miss Sneaky Pants! :P

  • SORRY! MRS. Sneaky Pants!

  • Ahhh well at least since someone TENTATIVELY SUGGESTED (even with ZERO evidence) that that was MAYBE the case.. maybe that's where I got the idea instead of totally imagining things! :)) 8-}
