What happened?
-
I bred the horses shown below-
Stud
HLR Kings Cross
Dam
HLR Mothers Will
And it said that the foal carried to much white and would not make it. What happened? Did I do something wrong?
Thanks in advanced -
Both splash and frame can increase wf. My theory is the foal got w2 and w20 which, while it has a low risk, w20 increasing the wf along with the splash and frame killed the foal.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

So, the foal inherited to much of both genes? Which killed it?
-
I bred the same stallion to another Foundation mare with roughly the same genetics (Splash and Frame) and that foal was fine?
-
What did that mare had as WF, and what was the foal like?
I would presume that a high WF killed the foal. Splash and frame and w20 (I think on the last one) increase WF. The foal would've needed to have the highest wf for that combo which is 105 and, while rare, it does happen. Just bad luck.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

There are certain Kit gene crosses that can potentially be lethal and give you a dead foal. For more information about Kit lethality, you can read this announcement. The google docs spreadsheet is much more informative than the colored boxes chart.

KitW20 and KitW2 are lethal together when the foal has extensive white factor. It probably got both as well as Splash, which would increase the white factor. Very unlucky! It won't happen every time you make this cross, but it is (obviously) a risk you would take with these two horses.
Here's a link to a post that explains kit lethality. I've saved the full lethality chart with the numbers (linked at the bottom of the post) to my computer and consult it very often, as it's more in depth, but bookmarking this link would be just as good.

I suggest you give it a good look over before you try any risky crosses! -

This is the mare and foal I bred at the same time. He is fine.

That foal got lucky and didn't inherit any Kit genes, therefore had nothing lethal, genetically.
Every time you breed, you won't always get the same genetic outcome in the foal. Each horse has two options for each gene, and every foal is a gamble as to which of the two it will get. -
That's because the foal has no kit genes, therefore can't die from an overload of white (I think). The foal also didn't get splash from his mum, nor did he get frame from his dad. Both of those would have increased his WF, making it extensice, which would've killed a kitw20kitw2 foal.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

So do I just not breed these mares or? Gamble if its a rare thing to happen?
I breed for colour which means all my horses have KitW genes of sorts. Is this just a bad line to breed in? -
It's a very rare thing to happen so I'd say gamble. Try breeding these mares to boys with low WF though.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Good thing to look out for

Thank you everyone for your help!
