Choosing Mare for Straw
-
I'm working on picking a mare for my Mr. Milestones straw. Is there anything I can do to maximize my chances of an intact foal?
I assume it's best to use a perfect foundation mare. Is there anything else I can do?
Is there an order you do testing to allow an opportunity to 'intervene?'
Thank you! Any advice would be appreciated! -
I papered my mare (She turned yellow) So I stopped and boosted her then I did the basic testing followed by the strict testing.♡ ID #23495 ♡

A perfect foundation or Yellow 9.9 RS (If you have any left this breeding season). Although I have seen a lot of perfect foundation babies get spayed or paper yellow. I guess it just a luck of the draw. It's also hard that you can't use a pasture bonus (Which would have been wonderful). :) Goodluck♡ ID #23495 ♡

Pasture bonus would be helpful! Unfortunately, all my mares have been used this season so I'll have to wait until next season to use it. However, the planning has begun!
So, it sounds like maybe doing PT (GMT consistent, if necessary) and then papering. And, lots of finger crossing! -
I don't think Performance Inspection will change it's paper level or odds of being spayed/gelded (Even if made consistent)?
I go by this order:
"Breeding inspection" See what they paper (If they paper yellow, you would have to boost)
"Breeding Advice" If they pass Breeding advice then they normally don't need a huge boost. If they don't then they normally need the whole 5 point boost.
"Strict Advice" Cause all my babies have to pass this anyway.
If you do it in this order you can see how much of a boost you need.
I hate testing on amazing babies...I swear I hold my breath until it's done LOL♡ ID #23495 ♡

PT can change its odds of being spelded because you can get spelded for being very inconsistent (not sure HOW inconsistent but some inconsistencies get spelded).

Honestly, I just used a regular create mare from the Smokey cream hh that passed sba. I got lucky with a superior intact colt.Specializing in W8, W3 & Kit M Cream & Pearl draft horses.

When it comes to testing, if you do breeding inspection first, you can decide if you need to boost before running through ba or sba.Specializing in W8, W3 & Kit M Cream & Pearl draft horses.

Awesome! We'll see how this goes on the second. Already have a couple candidate mares picked out and will see how it goes in the new breeding season!
