Amount of Training vs Creation Age
-
Something I've been wondering about is the pros and cons of creating foundation horses as foals vs older ages when it comes to training and showing.
Now I know if a horse has a very low PT score, it can even be born Leveled Off (like if it has a PT score of 3.0 and is created as a four year old, it will be born already Leveled Off). And horses that are created as older will usually start off showing in a higher level than foals will. So does that mean that horses that are created at older ages (2, 3, and 4 years old) are created with their share of training (as if they were training all along) built in already?
In other words, will a horse that is created at 3 years old have the same about of training that a 3 year old that was created as a foal and then manually (or auto) trained once a week has (all other things like PT score being equal)? -
Nope. They get their first training session AFTER they are created, so a 4 year old and a yearling, both created on the same date/time will have the same number of training sessions available throughout their lifetime.
The only reason I create horses as 3 year olds is so that they are ready to breed sooner.Thanked by 1Kinetic -
Ok, that's what I was afraid of. I've been creating foals (or 2 year olds, if it's early in the month) so they get all of their training, but it means I have to be very patient waiting until they're ready to breed lol.
Thank you for answering!Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
ETA This is wrong -> Now, when you are BREEDING horses, it makes sense to breed earlier in the month. They will have more training sessions under their belts than foals created on the 26th of the month by the time they all turn two at the next rollover. Depending on their PT they will then have the edge in show classes. Won't do anything for their breeding ability, but for JUST show horses it can help.

Oh, and since horses are randomly assigned a ahowing level upon creation, that 4 year old and that yearling will probably never show against each other. But it is still true about the number of traning sessions.

Wait a minute, Confluence. Foals and Yearlings don't train. They won't start training and adding points to their show score numbers after they turn 2.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I was always under the impression that, as far as training is concerned, it didn't matter when a foal was bred. Foals can't be trained until they turn 2, so an early foal won't have any more or fewer than a late foal. The only difference would be the number of showing sessions. Unless I am misunderstanding?

:D Waldgraf Looks like we were posting at the same time.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Haha! Yes, we were. Well...must be a great mind thing!

Derp!
Since the 4 year old didn't train as a yearling EITHER then the statement still stands, it's just a moot point! ROFL!
