Labor update! (Small giveaway included) edit 1
  • War ing long post! Thought a few of you would be interested in reading it though. To keep from spamming the forums I will update on this thread from here on out

7am got to the hospital and completed paper work. When I got upstairs they were unable to get me into a room for an hour and a half. Had a very busy night (the hospital) and had am emergency birth, hope mother and baby were fine. I believe they were/are

9-1030am nothing much happened. They started my monitors and started my IV with antibiotics (strep B positive)

11am my doctor came in and finally checked my dilation, barely 2 cm. He broke my water and put attached a monitor or something to baby.

    11am-1pm basically nothing butmild contraction

2pm-4pm this is where things got a bit fuzzy. Contractions started getting more intense but not by much. I was given IV painkillers. Spent most of this time chattering my head off. At 4pm I wanted to take a nap as I had only slept 2 hours the night before. This is when I noticed the meds wearing off. Within half an hour my contraction were so bad i requested an epidiral. A contraction monitor (I believe) was placed next to baby's head. Cervix checked at just about 4 cm

5pm epidural was administered. Very very odd sort of pain. Labor drug lowered from a 20 to a 10. Nurse told me she had rarely seen a woman go so long at full pit with no epidural
530pm cervix was measuring at 3cm again. Pit (labor drug) was "gently" increased. Contractions started back up and I basically spent the next few hours feeling very itchy but mostly fine.

8pm was given benadryl for the itchymess and to help me finally get some sleep.

At 1015pm my nurse woke me (she did several looks between for regular examination and med adjustments) to check cervix and check my blood pressure as it was rather low. FINALLY cervix is measuring at 5cm. What a relief. Hoping and wishing that everything starts to roll along now.

Sorry for such a long post but i see you all as extended friends and would like to share my story with everyone. Plus I like getting the occasional pregnancy/birth/or baby story from you other mothers as well.

Now for the fun part. If like to do a give away to anyone who can guess the baby's arrival time and his birth weight. I'll give a hint to be fair, he has been a smaller baby this pregnancy, causing a bit of alarm at first :D

I haven't decided on a prize yet. I'm thinking I'll offer 2 desperate prizes, one for each category. I think I'll also give the prizes based on what the winner(s) preferences are as far as their herd goes. Nothing fancy but still fun!

So guess away! Also share your story if you'd like! Keep me entertained while in in the hospital. @};-

For those of you guessing, please do as Cheers and Paradise did and post your guess in game time. I believe I am an hour behind (roll over is at 11pm my time)
    ••Edit/update number one••
At 11 pm (my time) I'm measuring at about 7cm! Back to napping. Gonna need this sleep because I won't have another chance at this for a while!

  • Wow Color! Sounds like you're in for a long ride. At least if the baby is on the small side hopefully the delivery part of the labor will be fast and easy?

I have 4 legged babies instead of 2 leggeds. I've helped with a few veterinary ceasars and I enjoy reviving the babies--it's so much fun to hold them as they take their first breaths and squeak at you! Or to drape a dairy calf over a fence to drain the fluid out of their lungs--amazing what muscle power you find when you need it!

I wish you a speedy and safe labor and delivery and a quick recovery, not to mention a happy healthy baby boy. Good luck with the pitocin....that stuff is rough!

    So...guesses

I guess your bub will be born at 3:20am game time.

I guess his birth weight will be 6lbs 8oz.
  • Ooo exciting! :D
I'm going to say 4:35 am game time
    And 6lbs 2oz.

  • We're sending good wishes and thoughts your way! I admit, I don't have a lot of experience in this area. No children of my own and youngest child. But, I have whelped a number of puppy litters and it's always so exciting to hear those little squeaks.

I'm going to guess the little one will arrive about 3:55 game time. And, I'm going to guess 5lbs 12oz.
  • Gosh, I hope it's quick! Praying it goes well before I turn in. I have NO experience whatsoever. Let's say 5:45...and 6lbs. 5oz.?
  • Oi, you're moving along kinda fast now. Nah I think at about 1:30am or so. And if he's been a smaller baby, I'm gonna guess about 5lbs 4 oz.

My daughter was early. I got bumped in the stomach at work and ruptured my placenta. Didn't know anything was wrong until I went into labor 6 weeks early. 24 hours of labor, 2 mins pushing, out she came. Purple, but she was screaming so loudly that the doctors were quite certain there was nothing wrong with her lungs. She 5lbs 2oz but dropped to 4lbs 14oz during her stay in the hospital.

Now here's the great part. People keep talking about how terrible hospital food is. Sweet monkey kings, this hospital could cook! And all the good stuff was reserved for the maternity ward. I hadn't even gotten to hold my daughter yet before they were offering me a huge turkey sandwich with chipotle mayo. After dealing with gestational diabetes and not eating good for months, I ate that sandwich like it was the last one on earth.

  • Yay!!! I remember I was puking the pain was so bad lol they gave my a peanut pillow to sleep with and I was in labor for 13 hours. Then came along a 8lb 6oz baby (mind you that I'm a very small lady) lol it looked like I carried a watermelon :))
I'm hoping a good healthy baby boy
    Game time: 3:10am
    6lbs 6oz
  • I hope you are currently holding your tiny colt, but if you are not... I hope you are at least enjoying your nap!

Guessing 02:22 AM delivery 6 lb 2 oz

    Thanks for the updates!

  • Good luck with everything!
Guessing gametime 3:35 am and 5lb 14 oz
  • Oh My God. I remember the puke. 5 nurses are trying to get an IV into me and keep hitting valves. Everytime they do, I upchuck. Finally one older nurse comes and gets it first shot. I know I had to look a fright when I looked at her, haggard, bleeding from single hole that has been poked into me, and covered in drool, sweat, tears, and puke, and said, "Where have you been all my life?"

I popped too early to get the strep test so I got a lovely dose of penicillin in my IV and it's horrid! Ladies, almost every mother I've talked to has agreed with me on this, pushing the baby out may seem painful, but not as painful as that dang IV full of penicillin. Also they gave me a lovely drug at first called Nobain (sp?) that dulled the pain and made the room spin. I was going to try to go without an epidural because I was freaked out by watching videos on it. At some point a contraction started and never stopped. I was begging them to stab me in the back at that point. After that, the combination of the Nobain, Penicillin, and epidural just started making me shake and shiver uncontrollably. Never had that happen before, but to this day, if I accidentally take too much pain medicine for something, I start to shiver hard.

Are these entertaining you any? I was dying for something to read when i was in your position so I hope I'm providing something for your comfort. I had all three Jurassic park movies to keep me entertained.

  • They had to give me meds for nausea and my baby was to big to pass through so they had to cut me and stitch me up it was painful as hell after the meds wore off. She had huge shoulders but I still love my little princess haha even though she's 3 and towers over most 5 year olds lol
  • I have 4 living kids and 2 angels. 2 of them I delivered without pain meds. It's not easy. Epidural screwed my back up and they never worked for me after that. My youngest is the only child who is biologically my husbands. Talk about an amazing man, to take on a single mother of three and not even bat an eye. He never missed anything while I was pregnant with our daughter. He stayed very quite the whole time. The nurses were kind of scared because I was doing a nature birth after having a c-section. They had to pull out their manual because they didn't know the proper procedures for such things. Anyway I'm in heavy labor and I tell my SO to go get the nurses because I don't have to look she's coming. 3 of them rush in one sits on the bed and lifts the blankets and says yep I see her head. The other two start up a conversation about where I'm suppose to be. Should they move me to the surgery room just in case or can they leave me here. The third one chimes in and they start moving my bed to the door and then back in place over and over again completely ignoring me and my SO. After not saying a word up until now he finally yelled at them. "Will you all make up your mind if you haven't noticed we are trying to have a baby here and your stressing out my wife more by moving the damn bed back and forth!" All three of them stopped and just stared at him. I don't think any of them thought he talked at all lol. I ended up not being moved and had our daughter in the delivery room.

I'm going to guess 4:00am game time and 5lbs 9oz.
  • Hopefully bubs doesn't make you wait too long. Also hoping your husband is more interested in your baby more than the placenta (My ex husband couldn't stop examining it- The nurse had to drag him away and say,"Your SON is over here"- I suppose at least he didn't want to take it home)
Im going to guess 5:40am Game time & 7lbs 13oz...

  • So my wee little man finally came into this world!

At 12 am my time I was dilated enough to begin pushing. Exactly an hour later out popped a wiggly babe! The epidural had me pretty numb in the beginning but by the end I was feeling a bit more pain. Baby come out naturally but the doc did have to cut me first. I will never forget the sound of those scissors. Good Lord I nearly broke down after that but I saw it through and he was out in 5 pushes later.

My mother and my spouse were in the room with me. I'm so glad I had them.
These little storied and notes of encouragement was very entertaining and I valued everyone! Thank you so much

So who wants to know exactly when he was born and what weight?

@Riata hit the nail right on the head. My little "colt" was 6 pounds and 2 ounces! I was actually very surprised by his weight. 5 days ago he had just reached 5 pounds. So he gained a whole pound plus 2 ounces in under a week!

Now as for the time, like I said, I started pushing at 12am and exactly one hour later Bubby entered the world. Which would be exactly 2am game time which Riata wins again with the closest time being 2:30 am game time.

So Riata you can choose to accept both prizes, give one away and keep one, or give both away. Just pm me what you would like to do and let me know what you would like for those prizes (if you choose to keep them) I was thinking straws from any of my stallions? If you have another idea let's hear it.
    B-)

  • That is so great to hear. Congratulations to you and Riata. Now go enjoy your new baby.
  • Congratulations on your sweet baby!
  • Yay Wiggly babies! are you comfortable sharing his first name?

  • Yay for healthy babies! Congratulations! I wish you, your son and your partner health and happiness all your lives through.

I think the ultrasound estimates of size are pretty inaccurate. I know the docs were super worried about my sister's baby being gigantic and she is actually in the bottom 5%. She was a tiny baby--completely healthy, on time, all that, just little--and she remains small to this day, nearly 2 years later. I have heard many more stories of the predictions of size based on scans being way off than of them being accurate, so I just ignore them. Seems no more accurate than predicting the weather!
  • Holy heck, did that child grow jet packs and fly out of there? EEEE! Congrats, Color! I so glad everything went okay! Now to go talk down my ovaries.

  • Congratulations! I think an hour later from 12am is 1am, not two, but sure, we'll go with that. :P
  • Congrats on the baby. Glad that you and baby are doing fine.
  • Congratulations! Great job, momma. I'm so happy your baby has arrived. Enjoy your snuggle time! I hope your episiotomy heals quickly. That sound is not a pleasant one.

This is my secret formula: I took my birth weight (three weeks early), and added 1.5 lbs. I can add this "skill" of predicting birth weight to my list of Useless Human Tricks. I watch Call the Midwife, visit OB/GYN offices and surgical tables regularly to figure out why my ovaries are so testy (or should I say, teste), and my mom likes having children. Between those life factors, I'm nearly an OB ; )

A straw prize is a wonderful idea! I would like to share the joy, so may I pass one of my prizes on to another player?
  • Congratulations on the birth of your son. I'm glad he arrived safely.

  • Congratulations! That is so very exciting. So glad to hear you and the little lad are doing well!
  • @RoseFlute it is! But 2am game time is 1am my time. Is that where the confusion was? Remember I typed that about 3 and a half hours after birth and was exhausted, I did double check it but may have still missed something

@everyoneelse! Thank you So much again! He's doing very well. We're still learning how to perfect breastfeeding but we get better everyday (now to get the pain to go away (:| )we do have to stay an extra day because of jaundice but that's also improving with time.
His name is Declan Quinn. I'd like to share a photo of him but I'm on mobile and I'm not sure how to do that? If anyone does let me know so I can share!

@Riata yes you can definitely share the prize. If you haven't sent a pm yet (haven't had time to check) then go ahead and do that.
