DP in my Bays?
-
I know this question gets asked a lot, but DP is quite a confusing gene. From my understanding, DP in bays makes the horse's coat appear redder.
I just created 3 horses from the same HH, dark silver bay, and all 3 are hom. SSty and, with the exception of hom/het in some genes and the stally's tobiano, are basically genetically identical. I have considered the fact that he is AA while the girls are both Aa, but I don't know that this would be the effect of that?
So why is it that my stallion is so much redder than the girls? Is it possible he carries DP? Or is it more likely just the luck of the dice in choosing his portrait? (i.e. if I rerolled, he wouldn't be as red- I'm mostly convinced it's this!)
I've posted their genetic make up for your convenience! Thanks for any help!

I don't think your boy is DP.
DP makes bright bays (bays with no sooty) or wild bays (A+ gene) bright red. For dark bays like your boy it turns them deep deep brown. Here are some examples.
DP DP Ssty Ssty bay
z Freak Queen
DP dp Ssty Ssty bay
Word King DPA2
DP dp Ssty S bay
Queen of Bling DPA2
DP dp Ssty S wild bay (blood or red bay)
Rioja Prince DPw2 -
I've pulled these examples from the offspring of my first DP DP Ssty Ssty foundation stallion, Red King. He was a gorgeous flaxen black chestnut and he threw gorgeous foals.

I see! I didn't know it was only wild bays that the coat got redder! Probably as I suspected and just got a different portrait roll than the girls, then. Thank you Cheers, you've been very helpful!

It makes a regular bay with no sooty reddish too, I just didn't have an example of that from my boy because he was Ssty Ssty so all his foals were at least Ssty S. Hold on, I will see if I can find an example.

So this horse is likely DP dp S S--her grand Sire Bizarre Individual is DP DP.
3 An Acceptable Time
You can see how much redder she is than the mare below, who is an S S bright bay with no obvious DP in her line.
