Snowflake question
-
Would this possibly be a snowflake pattern? Is there something in the genome string that indicates the presence of the snowflake gene in an Appaloosa?
MW1 Snow Question -
I'm almost positive that snowflake can't be present on a regular create. The people with foundation snowflakes had to pay real money to purchase the snowflake gene. Occasionally you might see a foundation snowflake go up for sale/auction but it costs a lot of game cash. There's a forum auction for a snowflake foundation stud that started yesterday and the bidding has already reached 1 million hbs.
Here's a picture of that stud so you can see what snowflake looks like

If you want to see more snowflake horses, just go to the snowflake Appaloosa breeder's club and look at the different horses on the leaderboards. You can't do a normal search for snowflake because it's a hidden gene. The gmt tattoo for horses that have snowflake added just says GMT: ? >> ? -
Actually, snowflake can turn up in any horse made from the create page, whether it is appaloosa or not. However, I doubt if it is ever more than heterozygous in that case, so it won't affect the appearance of the horse. This is not a frequent happening, however.
The snowflake gene is hidden and doesn't show up in the results of the gene test. It only expresses itself if it is homozygous and the horse also carries Llp.
However, if a horse carrying a hidden copy of the snowflake gene is bred to an appaloosa horse that also carries snowflake, and the foal inherits both copies of snowflake and the appaloosa, the secret carrier will be revealed to the surprise and joy of its owner. :D I have seen several posts celebrating this unusual event.
In the case of this horse you are asking about, I would suspect that the white speckles are just appaloosa varnishing showing up.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Yes it can be homozygous on random creates. Just no one has found one yet.
