Is it wrong...

I need barn space so would I be wrong in selling my babies? I normally keep them but right now I need the barn space. I ha e overflowed into 2 barns some how. I just feel bad about it. I really don't want to put them in auction. So not sure what to do.
-
It's not wrong in selling the foals you have bred and/or bought. If the space is needed and the foal/s don't meet expectations then there is no harm in passing them onThanked by 1AtA

I do it every month! Leaves room for seasoned show horses and clears some barn space. If you don't want them to go to auction maybe just sell? They may be of use to someone else.Thanked by 1AtA

Best, if I DIDN'T sell my babies I would be so overrun with horses now that I couldn't wedge any more in! I allow myself to pick 10-15 from each foal crop to keep, and auction the rest.
-
@Confluence is that from each gen or overall?
-
Well, I TRY to make it overall. And that is not counting the breeding stock I keep. Good thing this is just a game.
-
Should I test them? I put them through breeding advice? Should I do anymore testing on them before I sell them?
-
@best friend, if you are considering keeping them, I would absolutely test them!
But when I am extra short on hbs and space I specifically breed about 30 foundation mares and auction all the foals without testing them. That way I didn't have to even look at them and get tempted by their color or pattern.
As others have mentioned, you are not wrong to sell foals. It is common practice, I think. -
I test all my foals with SBA first. Then I sort out the ones that stayed intact to look at later. I PT test all the spay/gelds, sort by PT , sell the lowest, and keep the top 5. After I've gone through the intact foals, I put the ones that I gelded/spayed from that bunch in with the game altered foals and, again, keep the top 5 PT scores for show ponies.
Honestly, Bestfriend, it's however you want to play! Lots of people keep every horse they breed and it works just fine! -
yea I keep every horse I breed for points mainly..i always use strict breeding advice before any other testing and the alters get put in the show barn and the ones that are intact that are not as good as its brothers or sisters I just sell
-
I only keep about 2-3 altered foals for show horses and auction the rest. Helps keep my barns freed up.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
