Coat change question
-
I'd love to add pearl to this guy like his dad but I don't want to take the chocolate palomino away because he has a cream gene is this possible? I want him to be a chocolate palomino pearl
Smoked Out 3g -
No you cant. The dam must have a cream gene for the foal to be both cream and pearl.Thanked by 1StarfireAcres

Short answer, no.
On lined horses you can only add it if they missed it from their parents. His sire has CprlCcr to pass on but his dam is CC. His saire will pass on the pearl or the cream but not both. His dam has neither. You could change the CCR to Cprl, I think, but it will not show up because pearl must be homozygous or paired with a cream to show.Thanked by 1StarfireAcres -
Ok thank you :(
-
If I bred this mare to Smoked out the sire of the other foal is there a chance I'd get a chocolate palomino pearl or does the dam need a sty gene?
2g Day Light -
Or would this mare work?
799743 -
The sire has a 50/50 chance of passing on either Pearl or Cream, he has a 50% chance of passing on his DP, and he can pass on only one Ssty.
Day Light has neither Ssty nor DP to pass on. She has a 50% chance of passing on her cream. She also has a 50% chance of passing on her Champagne, which would make it impossible for a foal to be a Palomino or Pearl. It would then be a gold champagne cream if the sire passes on his Cream rather than his pearl.
The unnamed buckskin mare has a 50% chance of passing on her cream, will definitely pass on one Ssty, and does not appear to be carrying DP based on pedigree, although it's impossible to tell about that cremello dam, although it doesn't appear that she passed such a thing on to either of her foals. You might get a palomino pearl or a chocolate palomino, but the odds look pretty slim for getting a chocolate palomino pearl.
At least that's how I am analyzing the three gene tests and the potential results.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

But I'm ok with using GMT on the foal could I get a chocolate palomino pearl if I GMT it on? From the mare on the bottom?
-
You could GMT the cream and pearl genes to get the right ones from both parents, but you still need the stallion to pass his DP. I'm pretty sure you can't GMT that on if the foal misses it. So you would have a better chance if you could find a mare who is both Cream and DP to breed to your stallion.Thanked by 1StarfireAcres

I was working on a complicated answer, but Cheers is totally correct--DP is not currently available in the GM Lab, so you wouldn't be able to add it if the foal misses it.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I thought you might have, but I didn't see it in the lab. I wasn't searching with a horse that was eligible to have it added, which might have made a difference.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

@Ammit could you add KP to a horse that misses the gene or find out if the foal has it? if so do you have to have a GMT to find out?
