testing before breeding?
  • should I do all of the testing before I breed? I have mares that aren't papered tested so should I concentrate on the testing this season instead of the breeding aspect?

110 horses not tested who are 2g.
28 horses not tested who are 3g.
  • It is always helpful to have horses papered before breeding, especially now that we can test the mares from birth. There's really no benefit to spending money breeding a mare that doesn't meet the mark.

    At least, that's my preference.

  • If you want to save money and won't just be tossing the mares into pasture, you could test them just before breeding, so that you can change plans if necessary, but won't have to spend money on mares that might not be bred this season--thinking of the 110 2gens.
