To Inbreed or Not To Inbreed - That is my question
-
Hello, everyone,
I have seen different things the times I've reached on this topic in the forum but I was hoping someone could provide me a more solid understanding of how inbreeding effects our pixel ponies. I realize it is not really nice to look at when viewing their lines, but since it does not have the health repercussions, etc. that there would be in real life, is it actually bad for them?
I would be talking about horses that are within the same generation that are half siblings, not uneven lines.
Are horses that are inbred likely to be on par with their non-inbred peers?
Thank you for your help.Red Rock Ranch

@RedRockRanch, yes, inbred horses will be of the same/similar caliber as their non-inbred equivalents - if all of them are given the same opportunity.
If their dams have the complete pasture bonus and they go through the same testing, inbred foals and non-inbred foals have the same chance of being the same quality. As you already mentioned, they don't have any repercussions like we would have in real life inbreeding situations and its only the aesthetically pleasing look of their pedigree that keeps some members (including me) from inbreeding. I just like to look at a pedigree and see all the different contributors. -
In other words; It don't make a darned bit of difference on HJ!

From someone who inbreeds to death and rarely adds new horses or lines.
As long as you're picking out the best of the crop of each horses there isn't any con's to it. You might end up with a lot of one colour and the pedigree will have the same repeat horses but that's about it. I'm somehow sitting on over 250 awards with a hoard of inbred mooses, so I'm doing OK.#4519 -
Well, now I know what I've been doing wrong! I've been breeding horses. I should have been breeding MOOSES! :p
