When Does Training Level Off
-
I apologize in advance if this is a super basic question. I'm still learning my way around.
Around what age does training level off for a horse? Also is it different for intact and altered horses? I realize gelding/spaying helps horses become better show horses but I wasn't sure if it was more of a bonus or if they just don't level off as soon for training.
Thanks for the help!Red Rock Ranch

Someone correct me if I'm wrong Please. :)
The horses level off at different ages, I think the PT indicates the approximate age it will level off. so an 8.5 would level around 8years old and a 4.2pt would be roughly 4years when it levels off. They gain more training until they level off, not sure on the training after they level. If you geld before they level off they will train better.ID #21047 -
The leveling off age is approximately equal to the first number of the PT score for intact horses. Neutered horses may not level off until the next game year. However, I think that with PT scored 11 and up, they will level off sooner than the age that equals the PT score. I haven't really checked it out, because I went to what is now the Premium Upgrade and stopped having to keep track of when to show my horses.
If you create a horse and it is already leveled off, you will know that it will probably never leave Level 1 and will not make you much money showing or gather very many points. However, it may still be a good breeder for a foundation, so don't give up on it too quickly.
After a horse levels off, it will still gain minute fractions of a point with training, so that if it is at the very, very top of its class, it may, after several months level up into the next higher Level/Grade and then will place at the bottom of the class. That would be the time to stop showing it, but its collection of points will still be valuable to your showing bonus, so don't just auction such an oldster off.De gustibus non disputandum. P.S. Never, never, never apologize for asking questions. This is a very complex game that has no complete description of all its ins and outs published anywhere. The only way to find things out is to ask about them. We are always glad to answer such questions.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
