Who isnt breeding next season?
  • I am thinking about not breeding my horses next season. With all the testing now I just dont feel comfortable with it. Does anyone ever not breed for a season?
  • I have greatly reduced the amount of breeding I have done some seasons for various reasons. This season I have only done my pastures because I have been focused on testing all of my young stock and trying to decide how to focus various lines.
  • I sm just having a hard time with my horses. It is difficult but i feel like i need to concentrate on testing.
  • I try to breed all my horses every season, mostly through pasture. Last season, I think I only kept 15 foals out of about 500 that I bred. The rest were sold back to the game. This season I tested all my lined horses and culled any that didn't meet my requirements. That greatly reduced the numbers of horses I had to breed. I'm looking forward to next season so I can actually concentrate on getting specific lines going :)
  • I've done it before! I went 3 months with little to no breeding. I decided I needed to focus on testing and quality than mass producing babies. Definitely no shame in it.
You could always put your mares up for public to bring in some extra hbs to fuel the testing. You'll have to consider the chances of them being unevenly bred though.

  • I have had a few months when I didn't breed, or I did very little breeding. My show bonus wasn't as substantial as it is now so I also couldn't afford to test the foals that I was putting out. The break also let me save up some extra hbs, after testing everyone, to purchase more barns for show horses.

Whatever you decide, the fact that you're still here is testament to your dedication to the game. Now you need to have fun with it! :D
  • You could always breed the mares and then spay and geld everything to keep for show ponies. Or breed the mares and auction the babies to make some cash. I like ColorGood's suggestion of putting them up for public brood to help you make some extra money.

  • I can make no promises about how much breeding or anything I do from now to August. Real life things. Just need to get a new barn and make sure my new colt Forest Weather gets his gmt, then my horses might just sit for a bit.
  • I probably will only do enough breeding to get some afpts determined. Other than that I plan to sit and cook for while to get some barns built and or expanded. I'm finally in a position where my show bonus it increases pretty good from week to week so I can afford it.
Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

  • I do one month of 'responsible breeding'...breeding the crosses that I know SHOULD work, to create the best quality babies. Then the other month I do just the fun ones...experiment with crosses just for the heck of it, breed horses with high Kit loads just to see what I get, etc. If the game is too much of the responsible/work stuff, then it's not really a game anymore! Take a chance! Don't give up all the breeding next month! Try something off the wall! HAVE FUN!

  • I may breed my one pasture that Joeys Dream is in. Trying to get a star or gold foal from him.
  • I always forget hj2 is monthly breeding so my horses usually get a month or 2 or 3 off between breeding
