Consistency
-
Does consistency affect a horses breeding ability or just show ability? Do you breed inconsistent horses- why or why not?
-
If I remember correctly it only affects showing ability.
Inconsistent horses may show good one week but poor then next. Where as consistent horse show at a good and steady pace.
If you GMT a inconsistent horse their pt score will go up as well.
But the horses pt doesn't affect their breeding ability, though the breeding mares afpt should be higher then her dams. :)
Not 100% sure if that is all accurate, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along and correct any mistakes i have made :D●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

Inconsistent horses are also more likely to have inconsistent babies. So for that reason I do not breed inconsistent horses. I have a few special ones that slip through, but I geld/spay and auction most of the inconsistent horses I breed.
If a horse is inconsistent it will also reflect in that horse having a lower PT score, since it affects their showing ability.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

As both ParadisePark and Salvistar mentioned, the PT score of an individual horse does not reflect its breeding ability.
However, they were both correct that an inconsistent horse will be more likely to have an inconsistent foal - which will have a lowered PT score - thus the AFPT will be lowered. This often leads to difficulty determining if the horse is a good breeder or not, which is why I try to avoid breeding inconsistent horses.
It becomes costly trying to GMT a lot of foals to be consistent, so it is simply easier to breed consistent horses and snip the foals that end up inconsistent.
I hope that helps. You had a great question. :) -
Thank you. I have this colt that I just don't know what to do with! Kinda special being a 2g brindle. I was considering GMT to consistent. Is there any way to estimate how much that will increase his PT by?

Since 2nd gen brindles are so rare I would consider them a good candidate to spend the GMT and make them consistent.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES
