  • Is it possible to have a Chocolate palomino (or just a normal palomino) that is homozygous Pearl? Or can they only be heterozygous?
    Thanked by 1supersarah
  • You can have a horse that is CprlCprl Ssty DPDP or CprlCprl SstySsty DPdp, but it would have a name like Bay (or Black) Pearl.

The only colors that have special names for horses with three copies of of darkening genes are the Liver Chestnuts and the Chocolate Palominos. The addition of other or additional dilution genes results in the regular name without any mention of the presence of DP.

  • @SandycreekFarms are you talking about a horse like this one? image
    Majestic Charm 8g
  • oh your talking about 3 copies of the darkening gene he only has two I think sorry
  • I am reading the question a different way, I think. If a horse is het. chocolate palomino or plain palomino, the horse can only be het. for pearl. A hmz. pearl will not have the (cr) dilution to give you palomino because both the creme and pearl gene are on the same allele. As far as the sooty/dp aspect, ditto to what Sandy Creek said.
  • Thank you @RipsinCreekFarm That is what I was asking :D Sorry if I worded that strangely! I'm planning my "Perfect Horse" for the distant future and wanted to be sure I know what i'll be doing.
