Show horses
  • How do you *know* if a horse is a good show horse? I'm starting to move my focus towards buying show horses (since I can't stop buying horsss, might as well make some money back!) Instead of just breeders.

What do you look for when buying a show horse? How do you know if your altered foal will actually be a good show horse?
  • I wouldn't even bother with showing prospects. Look for horses under, oh, 15 years old, that already have some points. Ideally they would have a higher PT score and be consistent, but lower PT, and inconsistent have value as well depending on their all time points (do a search for Horses for sale>All time points). Great Show Horse Herd helpers are always a good bet, and so are perfect foundations. After you start getting some show bonus money, then you might start investing in showing prospects, and keeping some of your home bred foals for show, but give yourself that extra financial boost by sticking to the proven show horses for a while.

Did you get your free Adopt A horses? http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/18046/available-to-adopt#Item_3

  • When looking at the points how do I know if it is appropriate for the horses age? I'd prefer to buy proven show horses. Is it just a few hundred points?

I did get my 2 horses! A show horse and a nice mare
  • I just do a search for all horses for sale under the age of 15 and sort them by all time points. I try to buy anything over 150 points, but preferably over 250. I'm not horribly concerned with how old vs how many points, but I have the barn space to put them in.

  • Unless you're keeping all your intact horses in your pasture, show them, too.

Searching all my horses by all time points and just looking at the first 25, I find that they range in age from 16 up to 21; their point totals range from 3,496.0 to 2,088.0; their PT scores range from 11.4 to 10.1; and 15 of the 25 are intact.

Of course, I've been playing this game for several years, and have 2,194 horses. :D
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
