A horse's initial score is randomly generated, and which of the grades in Level 1 they end up in is also random. Since there are only 10 points in all four of the Local grades, most foundation horses start out fairly evenly.

What makes a difference, for showing, is what the PT score is. This number is an indicator of how many points will be added to its show score when you train it. (The new test for this is Performance Inspection, and includes consistency as well as the test of how well it should train.)

Every showing level has the same four grades, and they are roughly representing the show world in real life. There are local shows that attract horses from a relatively small region, a county 4H show, for instance.

Regional shows draw the best horses from a larger area. In 4H, which I'm most familiar with, it will be a number of adjacent counties. Outside of that, it might include horses from a whole state, or several adjacent states. I haven't been involved in that level of showing at all, but it must be something like that.

National shows attract the best horses from a whole country. In the US, I have attended on such show--the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, held in Harrisbug, PA, about 3 hours from my home.

World class shows attract the best horses from many countries. The horse shows in the Olympics are one such show. There are others.

So, at a National or World show, there might be halter classes, and classes for horses at different levels of training. This is the pattern that the showing classes and their grades in this game follow.
