Culling?
-
I've got a basic culling plan for when I get the basic upgrade but for now how important is unevenness I've got a whole bunch of cute studs that are very uneven, should I geld?
So my plan for culling is
Gen 1 C papered and I don't care about pt
Gen 2 B 10
Gen 3 B 10.3
Gen 4 A 10.6
Gen 5 A 10.9
Gen 6 star 11.2
For mares I'm thinking the same
Is this relaxed or too strict? -
I have one that is similar but is stricter. I have been laxed in really culling.

From my understanding, when you cull by PT, you need to be culling by the AFPT and not the PT of the individual horse.
As quoted by Ammit, "No you would never look at her dams PT score. You need to look at her dams FOALS pt score. You always judge a horse on the PT scores of it's foals. No matter what."
Here is an excellent discussion on culling by AFPT scores: PT scores...whats the standard
That being said, I would think you have very obtainable culling methods. I have a bit different standard for my stallions:
Gen 1 C papered (The majority of my foundation stallions are Perfect RS creates)
Gen 2 B
Gen 3 A
Gen 4 A
Gen 5 A, Star*
Gen 6 Star*
I have yet to get a Star* fifth generation, but that is because I have been really bad about culling my fillies (thus breeding same quality horses each generation). I don't tend to cull my colts by PT because I comparison test them and know they are superior to their sires.
For the mares:
Gen 1 Red 9.9
Gen 2 Red 10.4
Gen 3 Red/Blue 10.8
Gen 4 Blue 11.1
I haven't actually bred any fifth generation mares. The PT scores following the paper level would be the average foal PT score I expect the mare to have after three season with full pasture bonus.
Hope that helps with your culling methods. We each have a little tweaks for our own way of culling, but most of us aim to improve and your heading in the right direction. :)

Yep! And then there are the ones that you take one look at and say...to heck with it! And you end up with a whole freaking barn full of shiny intact horses that you know better than to use, and you go on a spaying/gelding spree after they all turn 10 and you finally move them to your show barns. Not that that has ever happend to ME, of course! :P

@Confluence, lol! You literally just described what I did last month to my mares older than 8 and what I will probably do this month to all my 7 year old mares, too.
