Is it worth it?
  • I caved and bought a year long basic upgrade and was papering all my colts, got a couple Cs which I snipped, a few B's which I kept and one A colt. After I'd done that, I decided to do the geldings just to see if any particular mares were showing weakness and for curiosities sake and found this little blighter. He passed all his free testing, but I snipped him because he was inconsistent and I needed some way to separate the colts before I bought the upgrade lol So, would he be worth buying the GM tokens to unalter him and make him consistent?

  • Okay, so its something I should do then lol I wasn't sure and being a new player I wasn't sure whether it was worth the money! Thank you!
  • If I could I would! I think you can also gmt them to be consistent as well?

  • Yeah I was just looking to see if you can. I believe you can but I haven't exactly found where yet lol
My other A papered colt got a PT of 10.5, which I am assuming is good too?
  • It is worth it if you will use him for your breeding program.
  • I imagine I would. I am striving for quality over colour, so using second gen A papered colts is preferable to the B papered colts- especially since I don't really have enough money to comparison test them all lol Other option would be to re-bred his parents next season to see if I get another one like him lol
  • I would most definitely, if, as Ammit said, you'd use him for your breeding program.
To get an A papered G2 stallion is very good, and to answer your question about his parents.. I would breed them however it doesn't guarantee another foal at the exact same calibre as him.

Also, if you were ever to consider selling straws from him (if you decided to unalter him), I'd love a few! Hopefully not cheeky of me to ask!

Regarding the 'inconsistent' result, I personally wouldn't change through GMT as it doesn't affect their breeding quality, rather their showing ability; they will not be consistent in gaining points/placing well. However, that is just me, as I don't really mind about the consistency result, and won't snip/spay a foal based on just that - provided they pass all free and upgrade testing and comp. test sup to their sire.

  • Oh okay, I thought the inconsistency affected their breeding ability. If it doesn't, I am much more inclined to unalter him.
I was a bit wary about spending the money, if he wasn't really 'ideal' as a stallion.
And no, it's not rude to ask at all! I'm more than happy to pull straws from him! I have no idea on pricing though, so I may need help with that too lol My previous ventures in trying to stud out stallions, even for cheap, was not met with great success, but they were also untested.
  • No, inconsistency just relates to their showing ability/consistent placings.

Well I would love some straws from him! I'm not sure what your benchmark would be, but I'm more than happy to PM you to discuss?
Untested horses aren't preferable/frowned upon for players looking for prospective studs, so you're best to at least free test them (as any non-upgraded/upgraded player can test for no cost), but as you're now upgraded I would recommend doing all tests as if the stallion is good quality you'll recover the testing costs from your stud fees..if that makes sense?

  • Inconsistency will cause them to have a lot more gelded/spayed foals and will bring down their AFPT.
  • Not many A papered gen2's about, so yes if he was mine I'd both ungeld him and make him consistent!
  • Okay, so to clarify, he is worth ungelding and making him consistent and inconsistency does affect their breeding ability. So I think I will bite the bullet and buy the two GM tokens to fix him up =D Thank you all!
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • Did I just read this right? Inconsistency can change to consistent? Gosh I hope not...I went through and sold several inconsistent animals thinking it reflected BOTH breeding AND showing. Do you have inconsistent breeders around? Would it make more sense to prefer all consistent stock in the facilities in terms of breeding?

  • @RubyJo - You can use Genetic Modification Treatments to change consistancy. I put a longer answer and a link on your other post.
