Breeding & Points
  • Ive read through the FAQ, I apologize if this is in there!

Does the quality of a foal increase as the parents' points increase? Or, is the quality of their foals set from birth and the points express the parents' quality?

For example, if I breed Stallion X to Mare Y when both are 6 years old and both have 25 points, and again at 16 years with 100 points each, will the latter foal be significantly better, based solely on point increase? Assuming all other factors stay the same (length in pasture, etc.)

Overall, my question is - does waiting until my breed able stock is older/has more points increase the value of the foals? I know some games work off that principle but not sure if this one does.

    Thank you very much!!
  • Foal quality is set at birth points are a reflection of showing abilities and do nothing for the foals. Foals must collect their own show points.
  • Foxx is correct. In this game the showing ability of the parents and their showing experience have absolutely no effect on the foals they produce.

What affects the abilities of foals is the Breeding ability of its parents. This is a completely different random percentage number generated at creation or birth than the equally random percentage number that indicates their showing ability.

For lined horses, however, their breeding ability does affect the showing ability of their foals. It also affects the foals' breeding ability.

Because these abilities are expressed as a percentage, they represent a range of possible results. Just as in real life, there are no guaranteed outcomes, only a range of potential outcomes.

  • Awesome, thanks everyone! I figured that was how it went, but wasn't positive. My only extended time on a game like this was Ludus Equinus, where parent points affected the foal. I guess I can breed sooner than I expected and not risk foal quality! :)
