"Ascess" my stock?
  • This may be a tall order but I was wondering if someone could take a look at my stock and tell me who's valuable and who isn't? Who am I best to keep? Maybe value of ones I should sell? Would really mean a lot as I'm fairly new to the game and would really like to learn about what horses to keep and which not to :)

  • Your horses look nice, at least all the papered ones do. I would prefer Jackpot over Crimson because his PT score is so much higher that I have hope that he has better breeding quality to, but without comparison test I can't be 100% sure, and if you have 4g mares I'd hang on to crimson till Jackpot is three.
My main thing is I can only find for mares and lots of stallions, but it is late though.
  • I have lots more mares in my other barn:) If you want to check them out

  • I really don't know what to think of Walking the dog. You don't have any 7g stallions, so there is that, and I am very concerned how she threw a bunch of B papered low PT foals with a start stallion at first. I would have said her if she was a young mare producing like that in my barns, but she is an older mare, I usually give them a little more leeway as they will be aging out in a few months anyway, and she has some star papered foals later on. Have no clue what to think of that. I would use her with your highest gen stallion to produce show ponies, as I really don't know what she is up to with her different qualities. Maybe you'll want a second opinion on her.
  • Grey Velvet is looking idea for a foundation mare. She and your heart of the holidays stallion should make fantastic babies.
  • Journey is a yule log ashes, so once again really good quality for foundation. She's a keeper if you like her color.
  • Cat fight is good too, don't really know about Catella, but you have her for sale, so I'm assuming you aren't trying to decide if she is a keeper.
  • Thank you so much. I've been feeling the same about her. I think I may breed her to Posh again this season and see what I end up with.

  • Yes, I didn't like Catella's foal much.

  • Black magic is another rank special, you can assume that all rank specials are good. Dream I don't know, but her foal is a stallion, not a gelding, so that is a good sign (Good mares throw geldings too, but intact stallions show that they are probably not pulling down foal quality too much) always a god sign. I'd keep her simply because she looks cool and there is nothing to condemn her yet, we just don't have testing on her yet. She passed free tests, so that is good.
  • Any thoughts on my stallions? My babies maybe?

  • Second chance has been being a good mare so far, no reason to think she won't continue, she's a keeper quality wise.
  • Eclipse is another rank special, but she is exceptional. Unless you can find an exceptional stallion to breed her to things might be interesting. You could trow her in with the 2g horses with probably good success, but then you would have uneven. Some people frown on that, or you can breed her to your rank special foundation boy, and if you get any intact fillies they would be garnered really good, but intact fillies would be unlikely, but she could give you really high quality 2g colts possibly.
  • Halloween colors seems good so far. Passed mare testing, and I'm assuming SAT (If she hasn't taken the sat I would suggest doing so) By her show records she is looking really consistent. I would keep her. It is hard to judge fillies till they have foals on the ground though.
  • Ok, now to get a better look at your stallions now that I am more awake.
  • House of gold, rank special. He is too old to be one of the exceptional, but he is good. Keeper foundation boy. If only he was younger, so you'll be needing someone for when he gets too old. Don't need to be in a rush, but an eye out would be good.
  • Not sure about Topaz mare.
  • Da Vinci, A papered, good 3g, and the fact that he has DP is really cool too. :)
  • Posh, I'd want him to be star papered and at least his father, preferably grandfather to be star papered by that high a generation (I want to say 7 or 8?) If you are breeding him for show ponies that's all right, but honestly I don't think he is even that high an A)
  • Happy feet is a wildcard. Tested his father, and he is AGA my perfect foundation boy, so that is good, just wish I knew paper levels or comparison test results on him. He is consistent, so that hopefully is good. Hopefully he is consistently good, not consistently not so good.
  • Crimson is a wildcard, and unless you really like something about him, height, color, bone density, I would sell or geld him and focus most of your foundation breeding with Gold, since we know he is a good stallion.
  • O my goodness, it's as if these are different horses than I saw yesterday. Sorry. Jackpot is hopefully better than Posh, I'd keep him over posh, just would really like to see star by gen 7
  • Tycoon is good 2g stud.
  • Magic show is a wildcard, and isn't as consistent. He could be as good as Tycoon, but likely not. Really, you just don't know.
  • Mr Magic seems consistent enough, he's just a wildcard. I think He's a decent boy, but don't know.
  • Autumn Colors, wild card, seems consistent for now. Since he has flashy colors I bought test him out to see how he does. You have a 2g that you know is good though.
  • Presidential toast. Really don't like how he threw a spayed mare with a foundation. One foal isn't enough to give a verdict, but since you can't do comparison tests or stallion papering I think selling him is the right idea.
  • Thank you so much. Really helpful :)

  • Ok, so, things are interesting without upgrades. I remember when I was there, and when I upgraded I found that all my stallions I loved so much were toast. (My pride and joy was a c papered 3g...) I'd suggest leaning heavily on stallions that you know the quality of and comparing your other stallions to them. You want your boys to be same quality or preferably better than your girls, so go ahead and breed your unknown stallions to same generation mares and look, preferably you want most fillies intact and proportionately more geldings than spayed mares. If you have a stallion that throws a lot of spayed mares but you get lots of intact colts from him that means he is having difficulty matching your mares' qualities and your mares are easily better than him. Those ones you geld.

  • I want to keep Abby (7 walking the dog) for jackpot in a month or two. I'm not sure whether that's a good idea or not, may have to wait and see.

  • Also never realized that posh is a bit uneven. Not sure whether I'll keep him or not.

  • Keep Posh to breed her to in the meantime,
  • Alright, I'll do that.

  • I am thinking of breeding her to GM lunar wonder as he is a personal favorite of mine. Not sure if it would be worth it for the stud fee to get a mediocre foal. I don't know. If you have any thoughts I'd really appreciate it :) Let me know if I'd be best to just stick with Posh.

  • My first thought is that almost 1/3 of your Barn is stallions. I would cut that down a little. There are so many good stallions standing for public breeding each year that you can get by with fewer stallions when your Barn is small. Based on my standards here is what I would do with your stallions:

Stallions I would keep based on their paper level/known quality:
    Davinci
    Eagle Kiss
    Little Tycoon
    House of Gold
    Mr Magic
    Stolen Kiss

Sixth Jackpot I would geld because his sire is a *star and he is only an A so that would be going backwards in quality to me.

Autumn Colors, Happy Feat and Magic Show I would save up and comparison test them to Little Tycoon. I would geld them if they test worse than Little Tycoon.

  • Your mares mostly look like they are worth trying out and seeing how they produce. I don't love walking the dogs scores for her foals as far as PT testing though. I would expect higher and she would be spayed if she were mine. She does have Pearl though so you may want to keep her for that. I would breed her only to *star stallions and try to get some better babies from her.

  • Ok thanks :) the stallion I had in mind for her papered star :)
