Era ?
-
Hi , I'm just starting out, 3 weeks so far..
I understand about the " eras " mostly lol. but I have created 2 era#3 stallions. I used a herd helper to create them. since all my others have been era 4, which I thought was current.
if I breed them the offspring will be era#3 is it worth running 2 eras ? or cull out the 3s and concentrate on the #4 era ?
Thank you for any and all help :)

Honestly, I don't pay much attention to Eras. But, then again, I don't really shoot for leaderboard slots very much. Heck, I never remember to even check the era leaderboards! I DO pay a lot of attention to generations, but unless you are aiming for a particular leader board slot, in the Eras division, it really won't matter much.
I'm sure SandyCreek will be able to explain it much better (she is a WIZ at explaining things!)!Thanked by 1supersarah -
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Confluence. *G*
About Eras.
A horse's Era is determined by either the real-life time period when it was created, or by the real-life time period when its oldest ancestors were created. It is a game feature that gives new players a chance to compete on the Era leaderboards on an even basis with long-time players.
Horses that are exceptional producers (which was just recently begun in this game) will be placed in the Era before the current game era, because they are the equivalent of 2nd gen horses. I expect that your two stallions were from some of the Rank Special herd helpers Ammit was recently giving away over the holidays. Some, but not all, of the Rank Specials are exceptional producers or exceptionally perfect horses.
When you breed your Era 3 stallions to Era 4 mares, the foals will be placed in Era 3. If you breed the Era 3 stallions to Era 2 mares, the foals will be placed in Era 2. However, Era has NO influence on the breeding or showing abilities of a horse.
I think I saw a comment from a newer player that she kept her breeding to the same era, but those of us who have been playing for a long time don't really pay much attention to that. We are more interested in whether a foal is likely to have higher breeding or showing ability than its parents, which can be easier to get consistently by matching generations, but even that is not assured, since Ammit builds this game with lots of real-life variability to most of its features.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
