Breeding boost
  • Does a stud have to gmt'able to get a breeding boost? What exactly does it do to boost my studs breeding?
  • Yes, the rules for eligibility for boosting are the same as for GMTing. The horse must be intact, color tested, under 5 and have no living foals on the ground. It can be used on both mares and stallions.

It increases the horse's breeding ability. You can boost by 1% increments or by 5% in a single shot. That is, you can purchase. When they were first introduced in HaJ1, several years ago, some people would create lines that started with Exceptionally Perfect horses and boosted them 5%, then boosted their offspring sometimes, racing ahead toward the top of the old stallion and mare leaderboards. Then Ammit invented the system of Eras, and things calmed down a bit, I think. It's not something I ever got caught up in, since I play a much more casual game.

If you want to get into this, you will have to boost both the stallions and the mares. Especially the mares, since they tend to lag behind a bit in breeding ability because there aren't as many tests available to compare the with each other. Ammit does this on purpose, I think, just to keep the game challenging and make us use our heads.

I have only used a boost token once, and that was this breeding season in HaJ 1 when I got a very nice 4th gen colt that papered a level higher than his sire (*Star), but comparison tested only About As Good As. The sire is a very high A, and the son was just over the line for Star. So I gave him a 1% boost, and kicked him up to Superior to Sire. I was very excited to have a 4th gen Star, and I wanted to give him just that bit more of an edge.

  • You don't have to boost stallions and mares. You just won't get as many replacement foals of the gender you did not boost. :)
Boost the stallion to get more keeper mares and less colts, or boost the mares to get more keeper colts and less mares.
  • Thank you! Very helpful.
  • Thanks, Ammit. As I said, it's not something I have ever been attracted to, so it's good to learn more about how it can be helpful. One of the things I love about this game is that even after playing for years, I can still learn something new about it fairly frequently.
