Best way to build cash?
-
I'm new and going through GOBS of money very quickly! (Art imitates life, they say). So, what are some tricks to building up my cash? I've been selling off my "show only" horses. Is this a mistake? Should I keep them to make money for me?

Showing Bonus points. The best way to make money is to have a BIG herd of show horses. You should be looking for the number of all time points a horse has. Thos Show only horses will eventually start to make you some cash, but it takes several months for them to get up to the number of points that really help.

Another trick available to you just at the moment is to forum auction your Rank Special creates you're getting because it's the holidays. These are the Special creates Ammit shares with you each day--just one a day. Most are worth at least 25-30k and some are worth way more. Auctioning them on the forum is probably your best way to maximize the price you get, though you may be able to do a direct sale and get a tidy price too. Beware though, these are top quality horses and would also be quite beneficial to your fledgeling herd. So walk that line carefully!

I've made loads of money through selling off expro/experf RS mares, though that depends what you want from the game. I decided they're too good for my breeding programme, and I'll have more fun playing around to see what I get from less valuable horses (though I'm keeping perfect foundation RS's because they get fun genes and high quality into the herd). I've seen a lot of advice about running forum auctions for them but actually I find I can get a higher price through straight selling, because looking at the forum auctions they don't seem to attract much interest while when I just set a price someone will jump in and grab it because they know that otherwise they'll miss the chance. Also straight selling is easier. I looked at a few RS's which other people had sold and saw how much they'd fetched to get an idea of what to ask, and I've found that an exceptional producer/exceptionally perfect RS can fetch 80-100k straight off. (Colour test first, so your buyer knows exactly what they're getting). From the proceeds of those sales I've bought a basic upgrade, and having cash to splash found some nice HHs in the "herd helper" section of the forum - I used the "Great Show Horses" one to create a load of show ponies, to up my showing bonus and give me some more sustainable income. On top of that, anything that passes MA/GA is bred, as auctioning foals raises more than the cost of the producing them. (Which foals to sell? I extract potential breeding stock then follow crude methods like "the plain-looking ones without pretty patterns")
Of course there are many ways to play the game. I'm currently playing mostly along the lines of "let's see what pretty patterns I can make", with quality as a minor consideration, at least while I get my herd up and running. All my horses must go through free testing, but if they pass that I'll let 'em have a run. Later, I'll get stricter, but I want some decent show bonus income first, to be able to afford the more advanced testing. And as an impatient person, I want to get things up and running as quickly as possible. -
Keep aaaaallllll the ponies. Snip anything you will not be using, and stick them in a show barn. It will be slow going in the beginning, but suddenly you will have more monies than you can use.
Right now I have 7208 show ponies and 1029 intacts (including babies). I have enough cash to spend on the fun stuff :) -
And don't let the high numbers scare you. Once those show ponies start raking in the cash you will be able to afford an upgrade where you will find the Auto Trainer (trains all your horses for you) and Auto Show (automatically enters a majority of your horses 2 times a week - you can set it to do all kinds of different things).

Also, a little trick to finding some good show ponies is to search for the "available to adopt" tattoo. You can also use the search to find High pointed ponies in the auction by checking the "horses for auction" and then sort by all time points. Just keep an eye on their age. Horses have a chance of passing with each rollover starting from 17-18 years. Don't want to buy a 17 year old pony just to have it pass in a week or two.
You can also always find good foundations by searching horses for sale by user 13, which is the H&J rescue. All horses there will be perfect creates or the equivalent. -
Thank you all!!
