Welcome to the game! It is a complex game, but you're best bet for getting started is to click on the link for the Guide for New Members. You'll find it near the top right corner of the page that comes up when you first log in. There is a lot of good information to be found there. Once you've read it, don't hesitate to ask specific questions here on the forum. We're a friendly community and we like helping new members.
Here are a few quick pointers--one good way to get started is to click on the Search Horses link on the left side of your stable pages. Then enter 13 in the horse owner field. This will take you to the Foundation Rescue. All the horses there will be perfect foundations, which means that they will be the best at both breeding and showing that normal foundations can be and will be perfectly consistent in showing, having the same score each time they show in a given week. You can narrow the results down by choosing to search just mares or stallions. (Or gelding or spayed mares as well, if you're concentrating on show horses.)
It's the start of a new breeding season, so one other piece of advice is to breed horses of the same generation together--foundation horses to foundation horses, 2nd generation to 2nd generation, and so forth. Most experienced players prefer even pedigrees (especially for what shows up on the page when you click the "Family" tab for a horse. Past the fourth generation, it doesn't matter as much, but if an uneven pedigree shows up there, many people won't be interested in buying or breeding to a horse. That said, there is nothing in the game rules forbidding such breeding, it's just part of the game culture that it helps to know about.
I hope you're soon enjoying the game as much as most of us do. It can be quite addicting.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Welcome!
My tips:
1. Show your horses as much as possible, and build as big a show string as you can afford the barn space for. It's how you make money.
2. Don't worry about buying or creating stallions at first. There are lots of pretty, good quality studs for public breeding.
3. Use all the free testing to make sure your horses are good quality, and keep an eye here and on the forum for daily herd helpers to expand the colors available to you. Also, keep an eye on the auctions and sales list to get some nice horses, often pretty cheap!
Enjoy :) -
The best thing you can do to start is buy a few nice foundation mares and breed them to foundation stallions. Show everything as much as you can to generate points, which turn increase you weekly income

thank you all for the warm welcome ^^ but I couldn't find the link to any guide on the page that pops up after I log in. I also couldn't find out where to find shows for my horses....so any help?

thanks. and I figured out how to enter shows Xb luckily my 3 starter horses have tested out to be consistent competitors.

Hi everyone,
Think I'm off to a fairly good start with the herd helper Perfect Foundations. Yesssss......and a grey mare - I love greys. On average what age do greys turn grey? -
It varies. I believe they gray out faster if they are homozygous for it. They will have a lighter goggle around their eyes when created or born and hazy patches elsewhere, but I've never tracked the progression of graying on a specific horse.De gustibus non disputandum. The images of grays (and varnish appaloosas) are automatically re-rolled at the start of each game year (midnight going into the first of each month on HJ2). They get progressively grayer each time, but there is variation between horses. I have a 14 year old who has barely grayed at all: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=17110 and a 4 year old who just has some dapples on her legs: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=108054, but they are extreme cases.I was jllewis on the old forum.

Hello I'm new here.

Hi Blackfox! Welcome to the game. We need to be careful about reopening old threads (this one is from 2014), but it is really great that you took the time to look back through them! Not many folks do, but there is a LOT of good information there.
I'm going to start a new one for you, with some links and stuff. :DThanked by 1supersarah
