Value of Blackout Creates
  • I was just wondering if they are worth any more than a regular hh create?
  • It depends on what Rank the hh is. It will say on the hh what the rank is. Rank Specials are usually at LEAST perfect foundations, some are exceptional. It will say in the description if it is exceptional in any way.

Breeding and showing ability are only affected with herd helpers like Top Notch Producers, Great Show Horses, Perfect Foundations, and Rank Specials. Again, it will tell you in the description.

From the way it looks the Blackout only affects the color of the horse, not the rank or breeding/showing ability.

  • @CrunchyFarmMama, I would think they could be valued the same as a regular create since they do not have any increased breeding or showing ability compared to a regular herd helper. I wouldn't pay much more than create price unless they have a desired gene that I'm breeding for.

For example, I am super excited about getting black tobianos with the Blackout event because I breed tobiano in my lines. So I might pay a little extra if I find one that I really like. But if the horse is simply black without any extra genes, I wouldn't pay more than create price because there was always a chance I could create that horse myself.

    I hope that helps!

EDIT: As Confluence Farms said, the rank of the herd helper might influence the price too.
  • Particularly if no extra testing is done (SMA, color testing, PT) then unlikely to be worth more. I am often willing to pay "cost" if extra testing has been done, but that would be a gamble if you made a large number of creates.
  • The Blackest Night are Brindle, so it just depends on how much someone is willing to pay to get a Brindle, because Brindle doesn't pass on much to offspring. I wouldn't ask a lot above create, but a little above. If you don't sell th horse you can always lower the price, or do a forum auction. Since, the chances of them passing on the brindle is slight.
  • They are talking about blackout not Blackest Night.
