Naming a breed?
-
How does one do this? Hoe do you all come up with the names especially if you can't use real horse breed names?
-
Hee hee hee! I LOVE my breed name! Google Callipygian. Do EET!
I heard the word years ago and thought it was fantastic, and finally found the PERFECT place to use it!Thanked by 1SquirrelFarms -

What is the purpose for that? I want a good name but can't think of one. Does all of the horses I would own would be named that name?
-
Confluence, I googled Callipygian and I love the meaning! Of course, now I am humming a Sir-Mix-a-Lot tune. Best friend, I think some of us make up words, and others use obscure ones to meet the requirements. Mine is Triquetra.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

Every horse you breed would be. Most are made up words - mine is Alsakaen, which reminds me of Alasken. Since me username is Denali (a mountain in Alaska), I likes the subtle association.
Confluence, that is the best thing Ive seen all day.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
Shunka Wakan would that be suitable?
-
Best Friend, find something that you like and work on a name from it. My Barn name Kerredan, came from 2 names I saw in a baby's book, many many years ago. Kerr means dark, and Edan means fire (according to the book) so my name means Dark Fire, and I just altered it a bit for my horses, creating Kerredian for their name.

My Grandad's real life property is called Chilton so I call my horses on here Chiltonian (makes it sound like it could be a real breed :) )
My other idea was Janonan after my other Nan's property called Janona. -
I like those. I will work on that. Trying to think of something special.

Bf- if you buy a horse I bred it will stay a Callipygian warmblood. But if you breed that horse the foal will be a bestfriendian warmblood, and will stay a bestfriendian warmblood as long as it is in the game. A Saddlebred will always be a saddlebred, no matter who owns it, but it's offspring might be a different breed because it may have a parent who is a different breed. The breed of the foal is whatever the breed of the stable that did the breeding. Non-upgraded players horses are whichever breed you picked when you started playing. Does that make sense?
You can Google a "list of adjectives that start with....." (Whatever letter you want) and it might help with ideas. -
I made up my breed names based on the name I'd chosen for my account, which became the name of my stable. I started in Hunt and Jump 1 as SandyCreek Acres. So, as a Latin major in college, with time also spent studying French in high school and German in college, I naturally turned to other languages to see how they would say "Sandy Creek." It took a while, but I eventually settled on the German for that and came up with Bachsandigan. In German, creek is bach and sandy is sandig.
When I started playing HaJ2, I kept the base name SandyCreek, so once again I looked for translations into other languages, this time going with Norwegian. The result was Sandbuktian.
You could take best friend and see how that translates into other languages for ideas, if you like the idea of creating a name this way.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

also playing H&J1 as SandyCreek Acres: ID# 137592 -
I chose my breed name, Metropolitan, because of the big city I'm from :)! You can chose a name that relates to you, like somewhere you're from.Have a nyce day!

My breed name, Ausmerican, signals that I'm an American living in Australia for the rest of my life. My life and world have a lot to do with blending the two cultures and traditions and my American and Aussie families. Being Ausmerican is something I'm really proud of, so it was a natural choice for my breed name.
-
Mine is similar to what SandyCreek did. Mariñeira is my breed name and its Galician for people of the sea (according to good ol google anyway). I chose it cause my barn name is LittleFish which was my nickname in high school and all my stuff revolves around fish. :)Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

You know, I never put much thought into how other players got their breed name. This post has made me super curious.
I've been waiting for ideas to inspire me for a breed name for a long time, this has really help me think on it more.
I've always been partial to "Arbre" this is a name I came up with when I was like 14ish and had just started playing games like this. I was actually going to name my stables "Arbre Farms" but switched simply because I didn't think I'd manage to get that in depth with the games, yet again (boy was I wrong.) I will probably name my breed "Arbreians"...as well as look up variations of the word to see were it originated from...maybe I just made it up. I dunno

My breed name, Tychorian was picked after I couldnt figure out a breed name forever lol. I had a thread similar to this one and asked people to help me out. Someone gave me a few links and through those I found out that the name of a huge crater (I dont want to say its the biggest because I'm not positive lol) on the moon was Tycho. Tycho had too many google hits so I added 'rian' to the end of it :)
I've got a thing for the moon and stars if that wasnt obvious. So it was pretty perfect lol.
Also laughing so hard at the meaning of your breed name Confluence!Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
Something will click. I keep thinking of callypso but that is to close to Confluences breed. So gonna keep thinking. -
I started out thinking I'd name all of my horses after book characters (I now have 1500 horses), so after a bunch of other threads that weren't quite perfect, I decided on Eorlinger, which is based on the name the Rohan people have for themselves in Lord of the Rings. :)
-
@roseflute that's so cool! Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite books! How did I not notice this before----

Hmm if you like Calypso, then maybe a play off of Scylla or Circe? They're also from the story of Odysseus. Charybdis was a whirlpool, and then there's Ogygia (Not sure how is pronounced, had to look that one up - the island where Calypso lived). So like Scyllian or Charybdian? Just an idea!
-
Aw I really like the name where Calypso lived. I am thinking of Ogygian?
-
I tried just a made up breed name at first, but didn't like it. So, mine is the first part of my first name, Deni, in combination with what a person is called from my favorite state, Oregon, that I lived in for 30 years. The last part of Oregonian, hence Denigonian is the breed name for my pixel beauties. I also think all of them you have even bred in the past before you come up with your name will change to your new breed name when you come up with one. So, the name you are thinking about is a combination also.
-
@best friend, that's a neat name, though I'm not sure how to pronounce it, lol. You could also use Calypso backwards if you want, making your breed Ospylac or Ospylacian.
