Firmness on Axiom
-
I was planning to be as strict as I am on everything else. 2ng Gen paper needs to be a B. They definitely have to pass gelding and show aptitude. What else is bare minimum? I want to have good lines but don't want to snip all my foalso before I have a 3rd gen.
-
I have bred 3 foals so far, and they all failed GA/MA (non-Axiom GMT'd dames just to see how they would turn out). I am going to get a few mares GMT'd when I can. I know that my Foundation stock Axioms have TNP, Perfect Founders, Great Showers, and plain founders. So figuring out which will pass or fail is going to be hard, unless you choose to not test the first group of foals.

If you want to breed the best passing SMA is a must as is only keeping colts that test better then their sires in comparison testing. Snipping a ton of foals is normal and part of breeding high quality horses.
Further more I would say lined mares should show marked improvement in AFPT over their dams.

My gen 2 fillies need to be 10.0 PT or better. Colts need to compare with my top gen 2s. I now force mine to pass consistency as well but that's because I put so many foals on the ground.
I do not force my colts to PT at a certain level because it is so much easier to assess colts on breeding ability than it is to assess fillies. As a result I cull super strictly on colts. The fillies have a little wiggle room on PT if they are gorgeous and pass SMA and consistency.
I may keep an inferior colt if I don't have one for that gene set that is superior, but they are always marked for immediate culling when a superior colt comes along...even if the new colt isn't breedable age yet.
