GMT Removal, Help please
-
I have some horses that I want to GMT to remove FRAME. I know I need to buy GMT tokens for this. I would like to know how to remove the Frame gene. For example, how I take this : ee aA CC dd gg fF SstySsty pp KitKitw2 OlwO WF: Minimal, and remove the Frame. Will I change Olw to O or what? Please help.
-
Yes, you change Olw to O. Remember the horses must be 4 years old or younger with no living offspring to be GMTd. If you are GMTing lined horses, you can only GMT them to other genes their parents carry--so if you had a Black horse you wanted to make chestnut ( EE to ee) it would only work if both parents were Ee...if either parent was EE you couldn't GMT off one of the E alleles... I'm not sure I explained that well so if that is confusing please let me know and I will link real horses to try to explain better!!!Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

That works enough that I get what what you are saying Cheers, thank you. I think I will be outta luck on some of my horses as I know they are over 4 :(

I am trying to GMT my mare, Burning Friday. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=476769
She meets the requirements for doing so, but when I click on Olw to GMT it to O; it says there are no edits available. Why can't I GMT this gene when I did it with another mare the same age? -
Your filly's dad is homozygous for Frame. You can't change a gene in a lined horse unless there is an option in that parents genes. You can change foundations to anything but in lined foals you can only change to something that is naturally available.
-
Poop. I did not know that lined genes were non-changeable. I guess that I am stuck with another Frame positive gal in my stables. Thank you so much Cheers.
-
They aren't non-changeable. They just aren't changeable to a combination that wouldn't be available in a normal breeding from that pair of parents. Your mare's dad can only contribute a frame gene to his foals because he has two Olw alleles and no O alleles, therefore you can't change his contribution to his daughter to O.
I realize this may not help you, but I have tried to eliminate, as much as possible, Olw from my stallion herd but have left it in my mare herd. This means, with a few exceptions, I don't have to worry about lethal Frame breedings as long as I'm breeding in house. Because I keep many fewer stallions than mares, it was a more efficient use of GMT tokens for me..... -
I see! Maybe I should follow suit, and GMT Frame out of my stallions too. I have about 4 or 5 mares to a stud right now, but I want to get a few more mares. Your GMT method makes better sense to use than what I wanted to do. Your idea is brilliant Cheers.
